I get what he’s trying to get at but we have not figured out GLP-1s, tylenol, anaesthesia, and like aspirin. Medicine is *not* the field to make this comparison to www.sciencealert.com/for-over-150...

One consequences of the left's hostility to economics is that they rally behind solutions that will probably make things worse. Economics is not the enemy of the left, and hasn't been for nearly half a century

John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch.ft.com

In particular, where one big reason rents are rising is a housing shortage, rent controls do nothing to address that and may worsen it. Here’s my full article on the right and wrong lessons to learn from Spain’s housing crisis www.ft.com/content/437c...

Love to see Medicare for Kids back on the menu, such an underrated path to M4A

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

Here's how we get Medicare for All done: Make Medicare whole (no one can keep all the parts straight!) Include vision, dental, and hearing. Begin extending to more people, starting with children. We arrive at Medicare for All, which means great Medicare for everyone.

I know this is the “context is for cowards” website, but candidates run in districts/states, not on Bluesky dot com, and they message based those voters, not self-identified Maoists with untreated anxiety disorders “Local control” in Iowa means “trans rights” apnews.com/article/iowa...

apnews.comIowa bars local gender identity protections after rolling back its civil rights codeIowa has barred cities and counties from adding local protections for gender identity. The move comes after the state became the first to rollback those protections last year.

I hate it! From him and the whole left. It suggests something like “Dems would be petty authoritarians, too, if we thought norms didn’t apply to us.” Just say: I would never have done something so un-American. If he doesn’t relent, the courts must order him to, and thereafter he must be impeached.

I always enjoy when Obama gets in on the imagine if Obama did that game

i really do not want an anti-ai democratic party.

Brian Beutler@brianbeutler.bsky.social

AI is unpopular. The public overwhelmingly supports aggressive AI regulation; it overwhelmingly opposes further investment in AI infrastructure. Naturally, Dems are telling frontline members to ̶d̶o̶ ̶p̶o̶p̶u̶l̶a̶r̶i̶s̶m̶ curl into the fetal position to appease the mean tech men. There is another way.

Wil Gieseler reposted

Obviously, the regulatory solution to the infrastructure side of AI is to compel firms to only use 100% carbon-free power generation via renewables. The glonzo shit is wasting the best opportunity we’ve ever had to make the grid green and get big tech to pay for it.

sorta funny that in AI discourse you have STEM folks arguing that it’s possible to understand the world through analyzing texts and humanities folks arguing that that can’t work

On every social media site, very much including this one, it seems like about half people's effort & time goes to building a list of Official Enemies that must never be cited or supported, as though that's the first step in a serious political program as opposed a deranged black hole of energy.

this is literally just libertarianism btw

Opinionated Terran@opinionated-terran.bsky.social

Their answer to the trolley problem is literally "let everyone die but as long as I enable it passively, through inaction, my hands are clean" Which, for the umpteenth time, no they are not!

yikes seems bad

a few things about white Evangelical Texas Christianity I think you probably don't know, that I think are necessary to understand the Talarico situation I'm just going to describe the belief structure as I understand it, from direct experience with my family.

people are constantly trying to find the most complicated and ass backwards possible solution to “which of these two people would be better in this job” which is a mind numbingly obvious question in almost every case. much more fun to invent 10D chess to stay the rebellious hero

The correct Democratic position on every issue is “I will undo everything Donald Trump has done, I will destroy everything he has built, and I will impose consequences on him and everyone who helped him do it.” No negotiation. Rip it all down.
