The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

I am sickened by the relentless demonisation of refugees. No refugee underfunded a school. No refugee closed a hospital. No refugee took away support from the sick and disabled. We need solutions not scapegoats. Stop blaming refugees and tax the rich instead!

While the world awaits the Russian-Ukrainian ceasefire, Israel violates its signature on the Gaza ceasefire, committing the same war crime of starving the Palestinian population and refusing to enter the 2nd phase it agreed to. Sorry, but I find this the most incredible gaslighting. I now have to ASSUME that a Times headline is so totally unrepresentative of the content and views therein and I cannot criticise that framing, chosen deliberately by her employer, unless I PAY them to read the full article? Fuck. Right. Off.

The death toll in Gaza has already been updated to 61,709. The true scale of Israel's atrocities is only just emerging - and officials must face justice for every single life lost. So should those who continued to send weapons, knowing full well they were enabling genocide.

Is it just me, but doesn’t all this from Reeves sound very Trumpian? There will come a point very soon when not giving a damn about the environment isn’t going to look terribly clever. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Trump lived down to expectations www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... Trump's opening salvos of his Presidency were as bad, if not worse than I expected. The fact that they were anticipated does not remove the shock, though. We really are facing very difficult times.

taxresearch.org.ukTrump lived down to expectationsIt has to be said that Trump lived up to expectations during his inauguration. In this regard, I see him as being remarkably like Keir Starmer. I always expected Starmer to deliver nothing of any con...
