Today I flushed my water heater and replaced the anode. Neither of those things had been done during my regular "service checks" by the company I'm stuck renting it from. Herculean effort by the old rod on the left, but that should have been replaced years ago.

If you're wondering about the vibe in Canada right now, I just got served this ad for a brewhouse that is just a portrait of the White House being burned down. No text, just a bigass picture of the White House burning and a link directly to their menu lolol

So I've been supplementing my Duolingo French with Google Gemini, but lately I noticed whenever gender comes up (as it often does when discussing conjugations) the responses are always prefaced with "This is for informational purposes only. For medical advice or diagnosis, consult a professional."

Trying to explain why "your polygon is inside out" wasn't a joke answer and in fact the geometry points are reversed. Having a whiteboard is one of the things I missed about working in an office, things just make more sense when you can write them on a wall.

Played about 45 minutes of Arkham VR and now I'm trying to figure out if my stomach feels off because of that or because I had Taco time for lunch today and too much popcorn at the movie last night.

I really want to tell people about Companion without spoiling the twist and I'm not sure how. I took my wife to it last night without telling her anything about it and it blew her mind. Definitely a movie where the less you know about it going in the better.

It's a dark humor thriller, but it's disguised as a RomCom until it definitely isn't. Similar vibes to Tucker and Dale vs Evil and What We Do in the Shadows. The tagline is "From the studio that brought you The Notebook" which is absolute chaos.

I've changed together so many nested function calls at this point I should probably have just written this importer in F#, but I'm glad C# has better support for this kind of stuff these days anyways.

New Solo Leveling is great, first season still slaps though, as the kids say. Binged the entire thing in a day again because I hadn't watched since last summer, though S2E1 has a decent enough recap at the beginning.

Starting a new job this week, back to in office after five years of working from home so now I need to go clothes shopping because I haven't had to look good from more than the neck up on a webcam for ages.

I do hate that everything fancier than a Mark's is almost entirely long sleeve only this time of year. I get way too hot in long sleeves, even in the winter, so I basically had to buy four of the same shirt in different colors because the selection is so sparse.

First loaf of overnight bread out of the new dutch oven, chili simmering on the stove, kids playing air hockey downstairs, I'd call it a good start to the weekend after a stressful week.

In case anyone was curious about how the workers feel about being legislated back to work, the absolute state of my mailbox after having a package I ordered before the strike aggressively stuffed into it should be a good indicator. Thankfully it bent back into shape, but a good laugh regardless.

Watching the Jets highlights this morning because I wasn't staying up that late... Is it just me or does San Jose have some fantastic rink acoustics? The blades on the ice, the puck, the sticks, it all just sounded so crisp.

BlueSky needs better notification controls. I don't want to limit all notifications just to followers because I generally enjoy interacting with replies, but I also don't need my phone to go off every 30 seconds when I get a comment with more than a dozen likes.

Thank you for crying. We are currently experiencing above normal emotional children incidents. All available parents are currently assisting other children. Your crying is important to us, so please stay on the floor and you will be assisted by the next available parent.

Possibly good news for the thing I ordered that made it to my city the night before the strike happened, as it would normally have been delivered the next day. Now to go dig up that delivery tracking email from a month and a half ago...

Was getting some weird artifacting when running Godot projects on my new laptop so I decided to update the graphics driver. Little did I know how horribly wrong it would go. Three hours of troubleshooting later...

Anyways, don't install the Nov 27 AMD Adrenaline update on a laptop with integrated graphics, stick to the Aug release. Props to SoftPedia and DriverEasy for helping me find and download the older archived installers that AMD insists on hiding.

Needed some "industrial" glue for a phone screen replacement, wasn't sure which one I needed so I got both but the naming scheme bothers me: there's a black version and a transparent version. One is B-7000 and the other is T-7000 and if you had to guess which was which by the name you'd be wrong.

"Dad, where's Boganing?" Uhhh, what? "Boganing!" What's that? "That's where our teacher said we're going sledding tomorrow, she said we're going to go tobogganing!"

My discovery feed is *probably* safe, but with Wind and Truth releasing tomorrow I'm muting any references to Roshar, Stormlight, or Brandon Sanderson for the next 30 days just to be safe.

I tell you, the disappointment I felt when I got closer and discovered it was actually just 36 smaller bags and not just one giant Costco sized bag of Hawkins Cheezies...

When learning French I often end up going down etymological rabbit holes trying to make sense of the "why" of words. Bibliothèque and ludothèque share a common suffix from the Greek thēkē for receptacle, but -thèque doesn't really show up that often in common English except as part of "Apothecary".

Four years ago I built myself a standing desk using a 6' butcher block countertop, but now the edge where my wrists rub against is starting to fray and splinter. Do I bevel the edge with a plane then sand and refinish it, or do I just cap it with something?

Vacation is over, back to work. I feel like I missed out though because I was sick for the first half of it and tired and recovering for the second half. Now that I've got energy I feel like I need a second week off to take advantage of it!

Second big snow of the season never seems as bad as the first, though it didn't help that the first was preceded by a day's worth of freezing rain. Main roads are mostly okay to drive on and I haven't seen anyone stuck yet.

Me: last day of my vacation, I've got a bit of running around I want to do UPS: yeah we're going to need you to sign for this package sometime between 7AM and midnight.
