The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Which is wild because when I think of "socialism" the last thing I think of is "decentralized local sovereignty that opposes party rules"

Fleet@fleetadmiralj.bsky.social

also I was told that we shouldn't pay attention to the national org because the whole thing is decentralized and this seems to contradict that?

I look Hispanic enough that I have been stopped and questioned by police simply for being too tan and having dark hair, but I guess those don't count as my rights being violated. But yeah, nah, let's just step aside and let Republicans win so that the Democrats will "learn a lesson"

Isabel Corvus@malacorath.bsky.social

So which of your rights are you willing to sacrifice. Come on be specific. Lets all chip in.

This worked out really well in 2024 when people decided that "Killer Kamala" was unelected, didn't it?

Transphobes Can't Read@lordaslan.bsky.social

Transphobic Dems need to be shown that being transphobic makes them unelectable, otherwise it will set a precedent that it's fine for them to do that. And then next it'll be gays. And then women. And and and. You know, like that poem or whatever

Wow, huge overt push to attack dems, they're getting way more direct and way more over the top. We're gonna get half of "BlueSky" screaming "genocide james" about Talarico by Tuesday, aren't we? This has to be a spam bot attack.

One of the reasons racism stays so alive in America (besides actively practicing it of course) is the unwillingness of white folks to confront the fact that hey, maybe grandpa was kind of shitty when it came to black people. They were raised in the times they were raised in. They had shitty views.

Vaquera Elisa@boxelderdust.bsky.social

Dawg we are talking about 1966, no American white working man was suddenly getting left high and dry by deindustrialization or austerity or recession The only “radical shift in the material conditions” was “you have to let black people into your school/office/shop/apartment block now”

Not all of them, of course...but even the non-racist ones were still uncomfortable with desegregation because it was a shift in their normal, and that's hard for a lot of us to reconcile that maybe Grandpa complained about "the colored people taking jobs" even if he doesn't feel that way anymore.

I would point out that the 90s had the lowest youth voter turnout in history. This crystallized Reagan era Dems, as no new blood was coming in. That's why Feinstein, Pelosi, Biden, etc were around so long.

Waldo@waldo42.bsky.social

Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

It's a real problem that so many people anywhere left of center in this country think that the path to victory for them lies in electing Republicans until Democrats do exactly what they tell them to.

It's a great experience if you have trouble falling asleep or need to distract from a tooth extraction!

If you have not yet watched “Andor”, and you have the opportunity and the time and you can do it before November 3d? I highly recommend a binge.

I'll say it til I'm blue (GET IT) in the face: I don't trust anyone that comes out of the woodwork a week before the midterms to tell us all how terrible Democrats are.

When I was in the Army, we were getting ready to deploy and my unit had to go to some National Guard Armory in Mississippi to get some equipment. They told the black soldiers to stick with white soldiers if they went off base because it wasn't safe for them. This was 2007. Fuck Mississippi.

Don't trust outside forces attempting to influence elections. Josh Turek sucks ass. Ashley Hinson sucks EVEN MORE ass. It's a 50-50 race and a week before election day.

I also have to ask why a Brit seems to be so invested in an Iowa US senate race.

I was really thinking the other day that Chekov would outlive them all. Now it's down to Shatner, Takei, and the mutual hatred that has fueled them both for the last 60 years

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

I'm noticing a big upswing in "Democrat politicians hate trans people, don't vote!" traffic this week. Now, there are Dems who need to be better about trans people, of that I agree 100%. But it seems a bit odd that as soon as Dems start performing well...here comes a wedge issue.

Remember 2024? We weren't doing too bad, and then we all started fighting about Palestine. Maybe we would have lost anyway. Maybe this time we'll win anyway. But I don't think I'm far off in noticing a pattern here.

I feel shitty being like "vote for someone who MIGHT limit your rights" but at the same time NOT voting is going help someone who WILL limit your rights. I acknowledge my privileged position on this, but I'm just not able to reconcile sitting out this election or amplifying Turek's fuck up.

Sometimes when I'm bored I head down to the Hobby Lobby parking lot and put a zip tie on a car door handle, then watch the middle aged lady come out and freak out that she is being targeted for human trafficking

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more
