I don’t know, man, what if, like, I want to know how something works and isn’t completely abstracted away from me? What if I like the ancient art of programming by hand?

I picked up some cool flickering pumpkins from Five Below. The on/off switch is underneath the battery cover on the bottom. It’s annoying to turn them on/off. I hacked it with an ESP32 so that it works with HomeKit now.

Wanted to set up CI/CD for my stupid little homepage so that it would copy files from GitHub to my OpenBSD server upon pushing to main. Realized this was all too complicated with extra users and SSH keys and I still don't 100% trust computers so I wrote a stupid Makefile to tar files over SSH.

I’m genuinely impressed with trackpad support on Linux these days. GNOME’s multi-touch gestures are almost as smooth as macOS. Almost.

"Everything that swore it wouldn't change is different now" in Somewhat Damaged always throws me off. "Everything you swore would never change is different now" makes more sense in my brain.

Tried wired EarPods at the gym tonight just for the hell of it... and I don't understand how people do it. They are no replacement for headphones with ANC. I had to crank up the volume to block out the noise and it wasn't great.

Oof. The Dell XPS 13 has gnarly coil whine when scrolling pages in Firefox. It might have to do with the 120Hz screen locked at full brightness on OpenBSD but it's bad. The animations on frame.work make it sound like crickets are in my office.

* No Wi-Fi (Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE213) - currently using a very old EDIMAX 802.11n adapter with Apple USB-C to USB-A dongle. * No sound. * No hardware-accelerated graphics - can't change backlight, can't scale with xrandr. * No suspend / resume - well, zzz suspends but it doesn't wake.

I have been thinking bout running OpenBSD on a laptop again. My immediate thought is ThinkPad but the current line is kind of crap and that makes me sad. Framework Pro seems cool but expensive for what it is. A MacBook would be cheaper... OpenBSD on a MacBook Neo would be a hell of a combo.

You know what I love? Opening a web page and seeing a modal appear then quickly disappear and then I can’t scroll. Why all the JS madness? The browser works, guys. We don’t have to reinvent everything all the god damn time.

Noticed my bank’s app kept timing out when logging in. Went to the site in Safari and was greeted with a GoDaddy domain for sale page. Cool.
