๐๐ I just had someone compare one of my books to P.G. Wodehouse and no one can ever take that away from me; my brain banked it and immediately stuck its fingers in its ears to anything else happening in the world โla la la la I canโt hear youโ

๐๐Chuffed to share this review of Paradox Lostโฆ being compared to Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams is incredibly humbling but forgive me if I bask with unbridled smugness in the comparison too ๐๐ณ

Hi Iโm Simba,
My ball toy is my favourite thing but a close second is this brill book by V.R. Ling which includes a strong cat presence. In fact itโs a must for all animal lovers.
But this is my copy. You canโt have my copy. I keep it with my ball toy. You canโt have that either.

These Fated Gifts, set in a flooded parallel world, tells the story of estranged twin sisters, Elin and Bryn, fated to defend both old world and new from the man who orphaned them.

As a publisher - no AI ever. As a reader, I will not purchase books made with AI slop. I only want human authors writing books. Feel free to let me know which publisher/organizations are already using the tech so that I can avoid them.
This is great from @christinalamb.bsky.social on how the nuns that stitched the Bayeux Tapestry were able to smuggle in (often in the borders of the Tapestry) the stories of women and especially to illustrate how sexual violence takes place in war

102 years ago a young girl, Edna Cornwell, won 2nd prize in a poetry competition. The published piece was cut out and stuck proudly on a wall. At some point the excerpt was placed inside the book she won as a prize & it passed into other hands, perhaps after she died.
Hello Edna, and well done ๐๐
I'm so excited to reveal the cover for my latest novel, featuring my own artwork! These Fated Gifts feels like coming home, in that it combines my love of East Anglia and London with my passion for writing and painting.
Coming 16th Oct from @elsewhen.press#booksky#fantasyficton#clifi
The #factoryfarming of animals is the greatest abuse of animals on the planet.
It also jeopardises the very air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the nature we treasure.
Yet humankind prefer to turn a blind eye to what goes on behind closed doors
It shames us all

@michaelspicer.bsky.social 1/2 Hello Michael, would you have any advice/suggestions for a nobody author with regards to tips for promoting their book? I know, if you had the answer to that you could bottle it, but I figured it was worth asking.
@michaelspicer.bsky.social 2/2 My publisher is a small press; I'm proud of that and they're wonderful but they don't have the advertising budget of big publishers. I think even folk who have had some success struggle with "getting the word out" but if you have any book-specific tips that'd be great๐
Tolkienโs description of orcs perfectly describes AI:
โThe shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real things of its own.โ

Hough-on-the-Hill church, Lincolnshire: Lovely Saxon tower with exterior stair turret. I canโt be the only person who says โSaxonโ and thinks โRohirrimโ.

If this were a half civilised universe all bus stops would be paired with an early nineteenth century water pump that doubles as a mile stone.
Normanton-on-Cliffe in Lincolnshire leading by example.

The more I explore Lincolnshire the more obvious it becomes they once had a real problem with dragons back in the day. Hereโs St Michael spearing one on lovely Stragglethorpe church.

If thereโs a piece of local history youโre worried is falling into disrepair itโs worth throwing your concern to the relevant authority. It can result in preservation steps and shows the owner/powers that be that they canโt get away with letting it slide into decay; people DO care and ARE watching!
๐๐ The English tradition of floater dodging is all too often overlooked by sci-fi authors but my new novel โParadox Lostโ has it in hand. Figuratively ๐ฌ

โฆ What if an alien eco-warrior decided to take unilateral action against some of humanityโs worst offenders? Would an intergalactic agency try to stop them?

I donโt want to crash the internet but I just found three - yes, three - mass dials on a single church porch. This might well make me the coolest kid in (church specific archaeology circles) town.
Wigtoft church, Lincolnshire.

Medieval mass dial on a buttress of Billinghay church, Lincolnshire.
A mass dial is a form of sun dial that was used to denote the โtimeโ (roughly speaking) for liturgical services.

Anwick church, Lincolnshire: Daisy wheel carved into the porch. Typically a type of witchโs mark, this one appears alongside a lot of late 17th/18th century graffiti which might link to when the porch served as the village schoolroom.
#archaeology#folklore#history
Digby church, Lincolnshire: Local folklore says that if you run backwards around the grave of Robert Cooke that youโll hear crockery rattling from inside the tomb.

Just received my author's copies from @elsewhen.press and look how cute they are: bonny bouncing quintruplets. Look at their little hands, their little eyes, and all the consonants.

A peaceful thousand year old oasis on the edge of an otherwise heaving Stamford town centre. St Leonardโs priory was founded around 1100. Two eastern bays of the original nave are early 12th century.
