The more I think about it, the more I understand the decision behind the OoT art direction: it’s really to sell the Switch 2 hardware isn’t it?

I mean it’s really leveraging many things modern rendering pipelines are good at, highlighting things the Switch 1 can’t do, and in the context of what is considered one of the most important 3D games in the medium’s history

as a product (because that's how this Ocarina of Time remake should be analysed, as that's the intention behind remaking it it seems), I do want to see how this game feels compared to, say, the recent Resident Evil remakes.

I guess this does fit what Ocarina of Time would look like if it were to come out in 2026 huh…! Feels pretty weird, not sure about some aspects of the updated design direction (Link's level of detail), but… as a product it looks and sounds exactly like what I expected.

I AM pretty excited to walk around the entrails of Jabu Jabu at this level of fidelity lmao. Not a big fan of the visual style, but I can see younger people seeing this as good looking, and that makes sense.

Im seeing a lot of people post about how excited they are to replay OoT, and how scary some parts will be or how they’re worried about getting frustrated with the water temple etc. or this remake definitely being a contender for GOTY against GTA6… oof, I worry this remake will hurt some people

Whatever they do with this remake (I wasn’t too excited about the Unreal Engine look of the protagonist in the teaser), unless the gameplay is significantly different to increase tension in the scary parts & increase the “puzzleness” without being overwhelming, despite tge OG’s gameplay holding up…

Mind you, I wanted to get into games because of OoT, I’ve replayed it recently and it’s still my favourite game of all time. But the beauty of it in part comes from the low fidelity graphics, there’s no way it’ll be remotely as creepy as it was, unless they go full horror game mode

I’m skeptical of the whole “leave cooked rice out just 3 hours and you’ll have to throw it away” argument… I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten rice left out overnight many times?? Is this a similar thing to MSG being bad?? Idk

as I'm figuring out 3D character modeling pipelines getting back into Blender, I have to say: character modelers on Youtube need to slow down on the gooner mindset 😩 I just want to know how to fold an arm or how to make things in a nondestructive way, stop ittt my yt algorithm is getting destroyed!

Should I flatten all modifiers once I start rigging, making the meshes harder to edit? for low-fidelity characters can I just work with the character's silhouette directly, clothes included, or should I model the character first and then put on the clothes?? etc. etc.
