Hi, I'm Kim. I build dev conferences for a living & I've decided to build a new one. I've spent the past 13 years organising dev events & conferences, most recently Devoxx UK. Between co-running the @virtualjug.bsky.social & volunteering at several other community events. Our next project 🧵
We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes & I’m excited to finally share some fantastic news! We’ve secured a venue, set the date & after much debate, we have a name. 🤩
If you're curious enough to click the link in the comments, you won't have to wait long.
Not in Amsterdam? Doesn't matter. @virtualjug.bsky.social is partnering with @amsterdamjug.bsky.social to livestream a session addressing the question every dev is asking: Did AI just break software security forever?

We are teaming up with the @amsterdamjug.bsky.social for a special live-streamed event exploring one of the biggest questions facing devs today: Did AI Just Break Software Security Forever?

I had an absolutely wonderful day with Audrey Neveu, @mseckington.bsky.social, Dan Hardiker & @svenpet.bsky.social! Our kickoff for project codename "KimmiCon" was truly inspiring & we can't wait to share more about this new developer conference coming to London.
Stay tuned for more updates!
"‘Honey, dishwasher’s finished.’ Is this a command telling you to do something, or an event? It’s a passive-aggressive event." - Victor Rentea
Software architecture has the exact same problem. Here’s why confusing Commands and Events ruins your systems 🧵👇
When you mix them up, you get "passive-aggressive events" — sending an event while secretly expecting a specific downstream reaction.
You end up with tight coupling masquerading as event-driven design.
In true Event-Driven Architecture, publishers shouldn't be control freaks. Broadcast facts and let downstream services react independently.
Want to avoid the top 10 traps in async systems? Check out Victor Rentea’s full talk here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6Tx...
"‘Honey, dishwasher’s finished.’ Is this a command telling you to do something, or an event? It’s a passive-aggressive event." - Victor Rentea
Software architecture has the exact same problem. Here’s why confusing Commands and Events ruins your systems 🧵👇
The difference is simple on paper:
🔹 Command: Tells a service what to do ("Wash the dishes").
🔹 Event: Simply announces what happened ("Dishes are done").
