Why don't San Francisco's bars and restaurants showcase local wines in the same way they showcase local produce and other purveyors? In the land of locavores, wine has been left off the map. My latest (free to read) article for @JancisRobinson www.jancisrobinson.c...

Just a wine-related PSA for all y'all on Champagne Day: if you're saving Champagne for, you know, that moment...? Don't keep it in a normal refrigerator. Home fridges dehumidify the air and will dry out the cork, causing it to shrink which can make your bubbly go flat or worse.

I got a chance to sit down with Michael Cruse earlier this year and taste through the latest releases from his cult sparkling wine brand Ultramarine, as well as the wines he makes under Cruse Wine Co. Here are my thoughts on these two portfolios:

Data point of one: I attended a small trade tasting at a Napa winery today, where a Gen Z Certified Somm (I know because she told me she was both) asked who I wrote for. I told her Jancis Robinson. Her response: "Who's that?" Someone else kindly (and gently) answered for me.

Wanna spend your lunchtime or tea-time with me and Jason Haas of Tablas Creek Vineyards talking about the world of wine? In slightly less than 2 hours we'll be having an Instagram Live conversation. Please join us! Check it out at @vinography or @TablasCreek - 12:00 PM Pacific

Calling winemakers to get some quotes for a story I'm working on, and some are saying, "Sorry, can't talk, we've started harvest." And they're not harvesting grapes for sparkling wine. That was last week and the week before. It's July 24th FFS.

Hug your favorite old vine today(gently) it’s Old Vine Day! Then go open (or buy) a bottle of old vine wine so we can keep ‘em in the ground! #oldvines @ouroldvines @oldvineproject

You know it's hot when you have to ask for new ice in your wine's ice bucket three times over the course of dinner and the wine still never quite gets cold enough. #firstworldproblems for sure. #parisheatdome

DAMMIT! NOT SAM NEILL!! A shocking and unexpected loss to hear about this morning. Those of us connected to NZ wine knew not the immensely talented Hollywood celeb, but a kind, funny man who loved an ugly pig, a farm, an industry, and a country. RIP. You'll be sorely missed.

So wine world, what do we think about Michelin's new ratings for Burgundy? Only 94 producers highlighted, and only nine 3-grape ratings. The "reviews" if you can call them that, are befuddling. Some reference specific vintages, others are generic AF. guide.michelin.com/g...

Chuffed, as my British friends would say, to be a finalist for the 67 Pall Mall Global Wine Communicator awards @67pall_mall. It's a great group of immensely talented finalists to be amongst. I wish all my colleagues the best of luck (but secretly want @MaluLambert to win!).

Very proud of my friend & colleague Ana Carolina Quintela for her 1st piece for @JancisRobinson, a profile of Alder Springs, including (very sad) breaking news that they will be ceasing farming operations after the 2026 harvest. Article for subscribers. www.jancisrobinson.c...
