A few weeks ago on Only Connect, I mentioned Kite’s Nest Farm and magical Rosamund Young. Today I was lucky enough to meet her. An unforgettable day. If you haven’t read The Wisdom of Sheep and The Secret Life of Cows, I earnestly recommend that you do!

Having a FaceTime at lunch and explaining to our toddler “You can see Daddy’s at work, because he’s wearing a tie and his hair’s all neatly combed”. I think I won’t try to explain the unusual extra dimension for now. She might as well just assume he’s got a real job.

In January 2023, Esther Rantzen announced she had stage 4 lung cancer. Today she celebrates her 86th birthday. This example of hope is yet another way in which that magnificent woman has been a force for good in the world. Here's an interview I did in 2017, where she shines like a sunflower.

At last, the end is in sight! Only Connect reaches its grand final tonight 🥁 🥁 🥁 Two lovely teams, the Pitchers and the 5Ks, wheel out all their brilliance in the attempt to become this year’s champions at 8pm on BBC Two.

Tonight is the second semi final of this year’s Only Connect! The final semifinal, if you will. Last chance to join that great historical pantheon of finalists/Third Placers! Or, for you, antepenultimate chance to angrily eat Minstrels while scoring 0. Pitchers v. Worked Bees, 8pm on BBC Two

From tomorrow night onwards, there’s a series of lighthearted Only Connect festive specials on BBC Two. But there’s a proper episode tonight at 8pm, for anyone who wants a last shot at difficulty before the liqueurs kick in. (When you watch tomorrow night’s, you’ll know how literally I mean that.)

One of my favourite questions of the series appears in tonight’s Only Connect - I’d better not tell you the whole thing, but it starts “A village in Norway, annually.” And if you can get it from that, I’ll see you next series! 8pm on BBC Two
