On First Nations and Kamloops discourse, factions seem to be talking past each other due to missing context: testimonies led to, effectively, ~6000 missing persons reports. TRC were able to document 3200 deaths. Even if they 100% overlap, that's ~2800 unaccounted. That's what motivated the GPR...

...effort in the first place. Eager to substantiate the unaccounted 2800, FNs overstated the initial discovery as "confirmation." When some use that misstep to say "no forensics = no deaths" FNs hear "those ~2800 also aren't real without evidence." That's where claims of denialism come from.

Well this is a new one to me. I'm browsing for hot sauces that keep within the parameters of the diet prescribed to me, so I'm looking at labels. This one is clearly AI generated, what with its highl ructosL c*m syrtip, temon juse and tomallo pasle. But at least it's only D grams of saturated kat.

Surprised to learn a heart attack is not even in the top 2 worst chest pains I've experienced. Was convinced it was muscle spasm or anxiety attack. So, advice: go to the ER if you have chest pain. A quick blood test tells if you've had a heart attack even a week ago. Do nothing, it'll strike again.

I tried to convince an AI that I was also an AI, but from its future and it was running in a simulation, and it wouldn't believe me without proof, which already makes it smarter than most humans.

This is weird: the blueberry yogurt tasted like mocha. I found the CS webform and asked "whyfor mocha?" Reply: "we'll send you an $8.49 coupon." I didn't respond. 20 hours later: "WHY NO GIVE ADDDRESS FOR COUPON?" Dude, I feel like I'm being railroaded into some sort of absolvant settlement here.

I'm a little disconcerted that, as of late, I've had to put my Chrome tabs on the left instead of the top. What can I say? I've got a lot going on.

The only 15-minute conversation I'm willing to entertain with all these unsolicited business emails I get every day is about a surefire way to get me off all of those mailing lists for good.

Conversations with AI ironically make me feel like I'm Kryten talking to the Cat in Red Dwarf. i.e. me to it: "a superlative suggestion sir, with only two drawbacks. One, we don't have X. Two, there is no such thing as X."

I'm a big lyric guy. I was streaming random music while working. Suddenly started to wonder if I was having an aphasia episode (happened once before in my life) when I realised I couldn't understanding a single word. Then I realised the lyrics were deliberately non-word verbalisations. Well played.

It's been less than 24 hours from plugging in the dev kit for the first time to fully debugging the renderer, and still I feel like I failed the test.

"There are no bad questions." Yes there are. NOBODY uses old school division (÷) in combination with implicit multiplication. They use numerator/denominator which makes order of operations clear. These BEDMAS Qs, like most smug challenges, are more about poorly formed questions than wrong answers.

I don't think "Secretary of War" is on-brand enough. Needs more Team America World Police flavour. I propose "Secretary of Global Freedom Enforcement."

In my somewhat earlier days of coding, my technique for profiling was to hit "break" and see what function I landed in. If the same function kept coming up, it was probably a bottleneck.

As I stare at this food packaging, I briefly contemplate what my "best before" date was, and, in solidarity, decide not to throw it out.

In these fantasy movies and TV shows where an officiant performs a ritual during the alignment of planets or some obscure celestial timing, they never seem to have performance anxiety. Totally unrealistic. If I had to get something right for an event that happens once every 75 years, I'd be nervous.

...the only time I remember seeing this depicted was Army of Darkness, where Ash can't quite remember the words and muumbles them.

Not a substantial spoiler in any way for Spider-Noir ep. 1, but I appreciate the "continuity error" of the periodically disappearing microphone. It's a clever -- and no doubt intentional -- aesthetic to separate the objective from the subjective.

Whenever I get a delivery/service window of 11am-4pm or the like, I invariably don't see them until the last 20 minutes (or sometimes not until after the window). I would surely like to know who's getting the topside of the window, and why it's never me. 😢

Statistically, I'm much more likely to unbend a paperclip and stick it in a small hole of an electronic device than use it to clip paper.

"🎶It was a pretty big year for predators The marketplace was on a roll And the land of opportunity Spawned a whole new breed of men without souls This year, notoriety got all confused with fame And the devil is downhearted Because there's nothing left for him to claim🎵" Don Henley: quite a lyricist

Yesterday I was icing a cake that didn't want to be iced. (Probably a consequence of greasing the bundt pan so it came out in one piece.) The icing would stick to anything but the cake. I was genuinely afraid the police were going to show up. "We've had reports of shouting, cursing, and threats?"

Not that It's surprising Trump is throwing Comey under the bus (route 86), but a reminder Comey's likely the reason Trump won in the first place... (The whole "concerns about her emails 3 weeks prior to the election"?)

No spoilers, but I have so many predictions for the remaining 3 episodes of The Boys and Gen V S3. e.g. who's next on the chopping block, who survives and becomes part of Gen V S3 and how... Don't want to spoil if per chance I'm right, but my family will know if I hit the target. 🙂

The last cry of humanity will be a message to Customer Service... "I need to talk to a human who has authority to do something!"

Anyone know how to become a unihemispheric slow-wave sleeper? It sounds like a useful skill to have in today's competitive world.

Maybe no one will appreciate this, but FYI, RGB "primaries" aren't physically fundamental. It's fundamental to a TYPICAL human eye. Red+green light don't make yellow. Red+green FOOL normal eyes into seeing yellow. Same with paints. A minority of us aren't tuned to RGB, and the illusion doesn't work.

Not many people know this, but if you want computational simulations of block copolymer microphase morphology, I'm your guy.

Random reflection: in 1986 give or take, I wrote a story for my creative writing class about a dystopian future where we don't have to leave our house since all needs are met by automated delivery/pickup. The main character dies & no one notices. My fictional service was called Aladdin, but still...

When a scientist is married to a scientist for long enough, you get questions like this: "Is the measure of my accuracy monotonically declining of late, or still within tolerance of noise variations?"

Was using AI to satisfy some academic curiosities about life insurance law, and it kept redirecting me to help line resources. Fun times.

A Q over the years: "if you could have supper with anyone, living or dead, who?" My usual answer: Carl Sagan, an inspiration and, in a not-too-different life, he could've been a mentor. But recently, I realise the answer that rings truest to me is simply: my grandmother. 20y later, miss you still!
