my mother died eleven years ago this week. she was the kindness person i have ever known.

fr. key has been running a light cult in northshire focused on how the radiance of the light is For the undead and other marginalized races that the light has been used as a weapon against, and what the living has done is a bastardization and heretical

hello and welcome to I'm Really Annoyed At How #FWA is run, a ted talk
FWA is entirely volunteer based, which is fucking bonkers for a convention of their size. it also means that making FWA work well is No One's job. people saying "why isn't this like dragon con"
BECAUSE DRAGONCON IS FOR PROFIT
- if volunteer-based staffing isn't working (it isn't), you need to start paying people to care
- paying your board while your con is Actually Awful two years in a row is wild
- dragon con works because it pays people to care
- AC /does/ work (older staff? are they all retired??? god bless the olds)

here is FWA's: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/o...
the big difference here is this board pays itself, albeit not every year. but my brothers in christ are getting COMPENSATED to run FWA at its current state, which i find buckwild.
caveat that i strongly believe in for-profit models for conventions unless you're fucking comic con, but even then their board pay-outs are more than i get paid yearly so it Is their whole jobs.
i know this is rambling, so i am going to break this down into specific points:

BUT
another completely volunteer based convention of similar size is AC. now i am in No Way saying AC is perfect but uhhhh there are some noticeable differences in how its run.
both AC and FWA are registered nonprofits, meaning that they have to file form 990 to show their spending.
LET'S LOOK
here is AC's: projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/o...
you can see that the board of directors (which is quite large) gets zero pay. they have never gotten paid. you can literally scroll down year over year.
This is Nessie and Millie. Neither of them ever really learned how to dig, but Millie is pretty sure it's like giving CPR. 12/10 no one tell her (TT: millieandazula)
