Been meaning to post about the Folkway Records book that looks deeply at the design work of Ronald Clyne, as I promised @jspacewoman.bsky.social I would do so. So, here are some snaps of my copy of the hardback book. It's a very, very small snapshot and I highly recommend getting it if you can.

Oh, there's a whole section that gives really lovely background info about the label. I was chuffed to discover my copy has been signed by Stuart Baker, the author.

Here are some further page examples that caught my eye as I flicked through. There are many more pages to spend time admiring, but I hope this gives you an impression of how beautifully this collection of sleeve designs has been displayed within the book.

The 22-20s were not a band that many people liked. I saw them live and they had an energy that many others in the 2003 indie scene did not. Raw and bluesy, I liked them. Still do, those early songs. This is a live 10-inch of early songs, and a promo copy.

Up early after a late night. I’ll regret this later. Off to London town to pitch for some work, then (Chas n’ Dave voice) down to Margate for some rest. Have a fab day!

Busy couple of days ahead. Decided to take on a new client pitch before my Kent seaside break, and out tomorrow eve seeing Kiiōtō at Pizza Express, Soho. (Feels like it’ll be a weird venue but perhaps not?) Also looking forward to Shane Parish on Sunday at the ICA. Busy week!

Anyone? Thinking @shardcore.org might be interested.

last minute, half-baked idea: I need 24 artists willing to 'cover' a classic xmas song. You can take as many liberties as you like - and indeed it is encouraged to be as experimental as possible. It doesn't need to sound like its original source material (but it can if you like). Anyone up for it?

As a subscriber to @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social I’ve been given 5 one-month subs for free to gift to friends and family. I have no friends and my extended family is either dead or illiterate, so does anyone want one? DM me your email. First five get it. It is on substack tho.

A few days ago I noticed some weird transactions on my Bandcamp. Like a large additional payment and some gift purchases to the same address. Wondered if it was fraud. Thankfully the buyer included a phone number. So I called it… Turns out it was an older gent who got confused. And…

He was a bit down in the dumps. Has been struggling since moving. We had a lovely chat about music. I got his extra spend refunded and today I shipped him an album. Later I got a text to say thanks as I really cheered him up. And you know, getting that text brightened my day, too.

I think this sentence sums it up: “Over the years, postage has gone from a genuine delight to an all encompassing shitshow.”

Postage! It's boring, but I wrote about what a fucking nightmare it's become to anyone who just wants to send a silly little tape of silly little songs to people: blogaboutsatan.blogspot.com/2026/10/post...

Not feeling in a good mood today. I think a fortnight's constant rejection from websites and magazines has got to me. I know there’s yet another reissue of a band’s album that was also reissued last year. I understand it gets eyeballs. That it makes sales. But shit me, it’s depressing.

Wonderful to see the music community coming together for one of their own, Ana, who spends her life supporting music. You cannot beat the Glasgow scene, what a night it will be, I’m gutted to miss it 🎶💃 People really do make Glasgow ❤️ #WeekendSingles @trevorpalmer.bsky.social

Always happy to drop stuff off to people, especially when they work at a great record store! If you’re ever in or near Dorking, pop into @spinsounds.bsky.social

Many thanks to Simon @unspunheroes.com for dropping the t-shirt off last week. Lovely to meet up and chat music for a while.

And yes, I know it says 0 track album, that’s because the digital download ships with the vinyl. Licensing stuff prohibits me from digital sales, which is what Bandcamp is set up for. You also get a free personalised handwritten note from me, too. Worth every penny.

I had to get out today, to not be packing records up, or shifting boxes around until I can face carrying them to the stock room*. Went walking around a piece of heathland that 30 years ago I spent a year surveying for my degree. *back bedroom!

@unspunheroes.com Simon, Simon, Simon! It's bloody gorgeous mate! Look at that! Sounds heavenly too. For those that don't know, Dan Arborise - Of Time And Tide. Head on over to Bandcamp to get a copy, you'll not regret it.
