For many serious diseases, the newest treatments only exist in clinical trials. The Luxembourg Research Clinic unites the University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Institute of Health and 4 major hospitals, so patients will have the same access as in Berlin or Paris. #uni_lu #ClinicalResearch

"Remember to use it as an instrument, not as your brain." Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, on AI, speaking to our students on Belval Campus during his state visit to Luxembourg. His fear: AI becoming "a replacement to your analytical skills". #uni_lu #AI

His example was the phone in your pocket: follow its directions long enough, and you stop knowing where you are going. His daily rule: one hour with a book, one hour of exercise, only one hour on the phone. "The third one I unfortunately fail on quite frequently."

Quantum sensors are built to pick up signals too faint for conventional instruments. In medicine, that could mean spotting a disease long before the first symptom. That was the focus of the latest #Quantum & #AI Breakfast by the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg AI Factory.

🌿 Prof. Anupam Sengupta: quantum effects may play a role in how plants use sunlight so efficiently. 🤖 Rick Schneider, Helical: in work with Pfizer, AI identified significantly more patients at risk. 🔒 Shekoufeh Gorgi Zadeh: AI still makes mistakes, so regulation keeps science trustworthy.

The second edition of the Quantum & AI Breakfasts opened with logistics in June and sustainability in July. On Friday 18 September, the conversation moves to health. 🧵

The second edition of the Quantum & AI Breakfasts opened with logistics in June and sustainability in July. On Friday 18 September, the conversation moves to health. 🧵

Quantum technologies and AI are opening new possibilities for healthcare: diagnostics, drug discovery, personalised care, more efficient health systems. The third breakfast asks how their convergence can support faster insights, more accurate predictions, better delivery.

Anupam Sengupta (Uni.lu) will present: "Biology through a quantum lens: opportunities, challenges, and AI in physics-informed biomedicine" From molecular dynamics to predictive disease modelling, clinical diagnostics and decision support.

Three questions psychology is now asked to answer: how early adversity shapes mental health, how AI changes the way we think and decide, and what makes people act on climate change. Not questions for psychologists alone. They decide how societies function. And #uni_lu works on all three. 🧵

Can concrete have a second life? Prof. Numa Bertola of the University of Luxembourg has won a €1.7M ERC Starting Grant for RESCUE: tools that tell engineers, before a building comes down, which concrete elements can be safely reused, and for how long. #uni_lu | @erc.europa.eu | #ERCStG

Reusing whole slabs, walls and columns is already possible. More than 50 examples exist across Europe. What is missing is a way to predict how a cut-out element will behave for decades. RESCUE combines physics-based models, on-site sensors and machine learning to give each building its own answer.

He was elected at The Guild's General Assembly in June, alongside Prof. Laëtitia Atlani-Duault, Vice-President for Europe at @upcite.bsky.social. The Guild brings together 23 research universities from 17 European countries. The University of Luxembourg joined in May 2025.

"I look forward to reflecting with The Guild members on how universities must evolve in times of AI, climate and demographic change, geopolitical uncertainty, and the expectations of a new young generation," says Prof. Jens Kreisel. #uni_lu

How can life-like behaviour emerge from non-living molecules? Prof. Massimiliano Esposito's ERC-funded EOS project explores the physical and chemical principles that could make this possible. www.uni.lu/fstm-en/news... @erc.europa.eu | #ERCAdG #SystemsChemistry #uni_lu

Anupam Sengupta has been named the next Head of the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Luxembourg, starting 1 October. His ERC (@erc.europa.eu) project studies how bacteria control light, work tied to cancer research and sustainable materials. #uni_lu #Research

Somewhere in the sky, a #NATO uncrewed aircraft goes silent. Its #SATCOM link has been jammed. It can no longer send navigation and sensor data back to its ground station, and the mission stops until it captures a signal again. 🧵

Behind the project: the SIGCOM group at #uni_lu's SnT, one of the world's largest research groups dedicated to satellite communications. It is also one of the first projects of the Cyber Research Hub, the partnership between the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence (@defense.gouv.lu) & the University.

Somewhere in the sky, a #NATO uncrewed aircraft goes silent. Its #SATCOM link has been jammed. It can no longer send navigation and sensor data back to its ground station, and the mission stops until it captures a signal again. 🧵

The University of Luxembourg is working to close these gaps. In a new project with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), our researchers will create an #AI model that continuously adapts to novel jamming technology, operating from ground stations inside NATO allied territories.

Congratulations to Prof. Alexandre Tkatchenko on an ERC Proof of Concept Grant! His project BATMAT is building a machine-learning platform to screen the materials for next-generation batteries around 100 times faster than today's methods, before a sample is made in a lab. @erc.europa.eu #ERCPoC

Two weeks ago, we closed the first Quantum & AI Breakfast on a line that stayed with us: "AI is improving the engine. Quantum is beginning to redesign the road." On 8 July, we turn to #sustainability. 🧵

Two talks anchor the morning: → Miguel Olivares Mendez (Uni.lu): Sustainability in Space → Jean Senellart (Quandela): Quantum, AI, and the future cost of compute, framing quantum as a new pillar of the HPC continuum Round table + closing by Rector Jens Kreisel. #uni_lu

Tonight 49 PhD researchers from across the world opened the ESERA Doctoral School 2026 at the University of Luxembourg. From Chile to India, Denmark to Brazil: their research is asking what it really means to learn science. 🌍🔬 #ESERA2026 #uni_lu

Why do children lose their love of nature the moment they start school? Can AI make a better physics tutor? Can comics teach science better than textbooks? These are the questions being tackled this week on our Belval campus. #ScienceEducation

#AI is improving the engine. Quantum is beginning to redesign the road. Three things from the first Quantum & AI Breakfast of 2026: → AI in logistics is business transformation, not software → The hard part is the data, not the algorithm → Adoption depends on trust 🧵 #QuantumAtUniLu

57% of people can't name a single great-grandparent. Archive My Legacy, a University of Luxembourg startup, uses AI to turn scattered family photos and memories into one connected story, so you stop flipping through pictures and start reading lives. www.uni.lu/en/news/arch... #ArchiveMyLegacy
