I continue to be impressed with the volume of great blogs coming out of MHCLG. mhclgdigital.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/22/s...
This is excellent. Imagine if this was the key methodology used in a single view of citizens that was used across the public sector. mojdigital.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/22/d...
This is good and I'm glad they're blogging but it'd have been good to know a bit more about their direction of travel. digitalhealth.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/22/e...
Obviously, great HMLR is doing so much blogging. What this highlights though is how bad we are at data. Not "we" government, but "we" society in general. So much focus on dashboards and not enough on helping people record it correctly in the first place. hmlandregistry.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/19/a...

Is your organisation still working within a "take, make, dispose" mindset? Get in touch with CFCA to explore whether Circular Economy Collage could benefit your team www.collectiveforclimateaction.org/training #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Procurement #NetZero #PublicSectorInnovation
I might be confused but it looks like only non-gov ID providers are currently on "the register" to use GOV.UK Wallet? Is there a list somewhere of actual government organisations committed to using it? www.gov.uk/government/p...
Pretty much everything related to the Design System has seen extensive reuse - it's a great example. Even if many departments are now using their own fork, presumably because it's difficult to get pull requests accepted from outside of GDS.
If you look at forks and dependents, you can see the re-use. Will use GOV.UK Frontend (the code for the design system) as an example. - github.com/alphagov/gov... - github.com/alphagov/gov... Not listed: organisations who downloaded the ZIP and copied elements of code into their own.
Forgive me, it took this blog post to remind me that there's at least one great example of open source code the a UK government department, other than GDS, has produced which is significantly resused. mojdigital.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/15/f...

This is very impressive but making code available isn't the same as it being reused. What would be really interesting, if the data is available, is how often the repos are cloned by people who aren't maintainers.
In the proudest tradition of utterly failing to relax on holiday, I've updated my "Open Govtech Index": all the government open source repos I could find, classified and tracked, so you can see what government is building (and hopefully reuse some of it!) www.govtechindex.cloud
Also, worth briefly pointing out that the above and this are both examples of failure demand to foster a proper software engineers community on GOV.UK itself. www.uk-x-gov-software-community.org.uk

This is really good. The key thing for this is using this technology to build an understanding of how local gov cartel software (housing, social care, etc) works so that enough user stories can be derived to to replace them. technology.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/14/u...

This is really interesting. It's great that HMLR is blogging but I'm wondering who this is for? The unexplained concepts used make it hard to understand (at least for me) so I guess it's aimed at people specifically in the planning field? hmlandregistry.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/12/a...

This organisation appears to be a programme running inside DBT itself, not even an ALB. And yet it's website is entirely outside of GOV.UK. ndtp.co.uk
It's been around for *four years*. I'm reasonably well plugged into the data-in-government community (thanks @gavinfreeguard.com ) but this is the first I've heard of it. Their news section hasn't been updated since August 2025. It appears to be two people.

In 2026 this is absolutely outrageous. For over 20 years now we've lived in an environment where funding an ongoing to team to create a small-scale MVP based on user needs and then scaling functionality and use has been the proven way to achieve goals. www.civilserviceworld.com/news/article...

We finally have definite guidance on how to name a service well in German. I wrote it over the summer, and it went live in the #ServiceStandard handbook this week. We still see a ridiculous amount of acronyms and animal names, so I had to write it. ⬇️ servicestandard.gov.de/handbuch/anl...
MHCLG's high quality blogging feels so standard now it's just becoming business as usual over there and not even worth commenting on *IF* it wasn't such an exemplar difference to how most of the rest of government works. mhclgdigital.blog.gov.uk/2026/10/01/m...
What a weird way to communicate with that kind of community rather than a blog post or newsletter (never mind somewhere that would enable discussion). Turns out that the medium is the message. www.gov.uk/government/p...
