New therapies are urgently needed for patients with advanced solid tumours that no longer respond to existing treatments. Our researchers co-led a clinical trial that showed encouraging early results of a new immunotherapy in these patients. @natureportfolio.nature.com www.nature.com/articles/s41...

(2/3) Researchers found that the treatment with semaglutide protected the kidneys by improving blood flow, preventing scarring, and supporting the health of the cells that line kidney blood vessels.

(3/3) UHN was a clinical trial site for this study. Dr. David Cherney is a Senior Scientist at UHN’s Organ Systems & Integrated Health Sciences Research Institute. The trial was funded by Novo Nordisk. Corresponding authors: Drs. Katherine R. Tuttle, Petter Bjornstad, and Matthias Kretzler.

🔬 With over 300 registrants and 100 posters, the #NEURONTO research symposium was a vibrant display of the neuroscience and mental health community in Toronto. 🤝 Together, we continue to strengthen the networks that drive discovery in neuroscience through this event.

Congratulations on your achievement, Drs. Xie and Dong! 👏 #TeamUHN #StemCellResearch

(1/2) Congrats to Dr. @stephxie.bsky.social, recipient of the 2026 Till & McCulloch Award! 👏 Dr. Xie is being recognized for her Nature publication revealing how inflammatory experiences can leave a lasting “memory” in human blood-forming #StemCells, with implications for aging and disease risk.

(2/2) Dr. Bhat is using #AI to improve transplant decision-making and patient outcomes, while Dr. Howe is developing new ways to target the blood vessel damage that leads to heart attacks and #stroke. Each will receive $500,000 over five years to advance their research.

📢 New publication alert! A recent study led by Dr. Jarryll Uy, a Postdoctoral Researcher, has uncovered an unexpected role for SCN2A, one of the risk genes associated with autism, revealing that it begins shaping brain development much earlier than previously understood >> bit.ly/4hz6Xor (1/2)

🚨Out today in @natimmunol.nature.com, a study from @pmresearch-uhn.bsky.social’s Dr. Anastasia Tikhonova identifies distinctive early changes in the bone marrow environment in people with age-related blood #StemCell mutations, before blood cancer develops. ⬇️

In people with age-related blood stem cell mutations, our study found early pre-fibrosis and inflammatory regions in the bone marrow, that may set the stage for blood cancer development. The @natimmunol.nature.com study was led by Dr. Anastasia Tikhonova: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Out today in @natbiotech.nature.com, a study from Dr. Bowen Li (@pmresearch-uhn.bsky.social) shows a new strategy for improving the non-viral delivery of large mRNA cargo for gene editing—an approach with the potential to expand the reach of gene editing therapies. 🔗: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Congratulations to Dr. Long Nguyen on being named Canada's Top 40 Under 40 by @financialpost.com for leading a research program uncovering how cancer cells evolve, adapt, and develop resistance to treatment, to improve patient outcomes. @uhnresearch.ca @uhn.ca

#NewPublication🚨 Researchers at @pmresearch-uhn.bsky.social have developed a new #AI tool that can identify rare immune cells with the ability to recognize and respond to #cancer. 🔗 Read more: www.uhnresearch.ca/news/9-16-20...
