The Whirlpool galaxy, or Messier 51. I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I'm very excited regardless to share. It was my personal goal this spring to get this one photographed. 🔭WO Flurostar 132 📷ASI2600MC Air #astrophotography #photography #astronomy #space @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Spending the night in the countryside so I took the opportunity to take some Milky Way photos! I’ll work on processing them once I’m home, but it’s going to be a learning experience for me.

I photographed the Elephant's Trunk nebula over the last 3 nights. The dark nebulosity and sharp structures were very fun to process. #astrophotography #photography #space #astronomy

Update: processing is going poorly. I think my focusing was poor because I keep getting an artifact when I try to process the image. That or maybe I just need to redo some things

Made myself learn FireCapture (before I was using the ASI planetary software a couple years ago) to retry planetary imaging. I’ll work on processing tomorrow most likely.

Summer has kept me working late, but I still find to stargaze. Most of the time though it’s now relegated to a late night walk or run, but it’s very relaxing.

M27, the Dumbbell nebula. I shot the nebula in narrowband this year from my driveway. The core is difficult to process due to the long exposures, but I wanted to bring out the faint halo around it. #astrophotography #photography #space #astronomy

Working on the Dumbbell nebula, albeit from a shorter focal length. The clouds moved in last night to cut my session short but I should be finished after another night.

Xoguri eat your heart out. Shoutout to TM Opera O for carrying the team to the finals, and Tamamo for closing it out. Also thank you Doto, you were there too. #umamusume

A discarded SpaceX rocket will crash into the moon this coming Wednesday, early in the morning (2:30~ ET). The actual rocket won’t be visible from earth but the large plume of debris will. The crash should be visible near the Einstein crater (circled below). #space #astronomy

I photographed the Butterfly nebula (IC 1318) over the past 3 nights from my backyard! I had a lot of fun with this one, both in capturing and processing. Nerd details in the alt text. #astrophotography #photography #astronomy #space

New night, clear skies, new project. If you can guess what this target is from this frame I’ll be impressed (no peeking at the alt text) #astrophotography

I photographed M5 last month from my driveway. In the uncropped version, you can see an object in the the bottom left that did not follow tracking. I'm not sure what it was, but most likely an asteroid of some kind. If anyone knows feel free to chime in. #astronomy #astrophotography #photography

If age verification using ID is implemented I will probably disappear here unfortunately. Part of the appeal of the internet for me is not using my real name or information.

Idk why recently but the quality of posts on the site seems to have dipped dramatically the past few weeks. A lot more engagement bait, dogpiling, and really terrible takes.

I was thinking about #astronomy outreach recently. I know y’all love your smart scopes for outreach, but I’ve found they’ve been decidedly unpopular at events I’ve attended. Most people are disappointed they can’t look at the object directly and equate it with looking up a photo on their phone. 1/2

I know visual scopes are limited by light pollution, but I think they should focused more for outreach. People want to see that view for themselves, something real and tangible. It’s also a great way to bring up light pollution as an issue too. 2/2

Banning anonymous posting is an awful take. Making people use their real names will force the internet into a sterilized wasteland. All the enjoyable parts you like will be gone. No more pirated media or remotely controversial content. After all, you could lose your job over a 10 year old post.

I remain of the view that regulation of social media is better than a ban for young people. But I also pretty much agree with all these proposals.

I’m fully aware the endgame is to crack down on anonymous posting to prevent a repeat of the world figuring out what was happening in *srael* invasion and condemning it Sorry i normally steer off the hot takes but this one gets to me

Really annoyed at High Point Scientific posting “reviews” of gear they’re selling on their YouTube that are just glorified advertisements.

Not that I really stream much anymore, but my PC died a few days ago. Might be an issue with the cooler or the power supply but I’m not sure. I did some troubleshooting and thought I had it fixed, but apparently not because the next day it died again. It’s at the the repair shop now.

Markarian's chain of galaxies, as shot from my backyard. This group of galaxies can be easily seen with a telescope just above the constellation Virgo. #photography #astrophotography #astronomy #space

@magic.wizards.com can we please have standard back? I miss low power magic where crappy commons and uncommons from a set would see play to flesh out decks. I miss the games not being decided by fast snow ball threats that if they stick on turn 2 you lose immediately. 1/3 🧵

I miss playing a format that rotated regularly so I wasn’t seeing the same staples for 3 years. I miss a small card pool where you could easily recognized the cards from each set. I miss blocks & immersing myself in a world for a year, like Ixalan or Ravnica. I miss vanillas in my draft. 2/3

I miss having more than a few weeks to savor a set, draft it and play it with friends before the next came out. The format as it is feels like Modern from 6 years ago but worse. Please bring back old standard. It wasn’t perfect, but it was better than whatever this is now. 3/3 #mtg

It was a wonderful night for observing; even with the local light pollution I was able to see some globular clusters (m5 and m13) and a couple of the galaxies in the Leo triplet!

Photographed the Wasp star cluster last night (NGC 6633). The cluster is about the same size as the moon in the night sky, and can been seen early in the morning this time of year. #astrophotography #astronomy #photography #space

Turns out I can get a decent few of the southern side of the sky, but not for long with all the trees around. I split my project time as a result. I hope to have one finished over the next couple days.

Very excited to announce I recently had one of my photos featured in the Strange Pear gallery as a winner of their Space Jam contest, sponsored by the National Space Society.
