Want find out where/how people talk about your app in bluesky? 1) Go to search 2) Type in `domain:<your-domain> example "domain:whichpack.com"

After some digging, here are a couple thing I found out 1. Network latency between vercel and my db is not that bad 2. Bottle-neck is in my query Same query for handle: mcuban.bsky.social - Vercel -> Hetzner: 600 ms - Hetzner -> Hetzner: 540ms - Local - Local: 250ms

Tuan Cao@tuancao.me

Which is one faster for you? whichpack.com or beta.whichpack.com 1) whichpack.com is Hosted in Vercel 2) beta.whichpack.com is Hosted entirely on Hetzner on $5 vps Please help me test it. I thought beta will be faster since the web app is closer to the db (also host on the same instance)? But πŸ‘‡

But from my own testing (just using normal browser to browse) The improvement if any is negligible. I thought by moving both web app and db into same machine, latency between the 2 component will improve the load time significantly. I see that very clear on my local machine.πŸ‘‡

Pro tips: Free "Work Email" with your personal GMail βœ‰οΈ When register for SaaS, eg BetterStack they require you to have "Work" email. Here is how to do that for Free: Transfer your domain to CloudFlare Setup Email Routing to forward email sent to your own domain to your personal gmail Profit!

Migrated my db server from Neon (19$/month) to a VPS running on Hetzner ($5) month. Data migration is done and not that difficult. Server load is pretty good. Let's see how it goes when more users visit whichpack.com #buildinpublic #dev

Kinda run down into a rabbit holes today, had a lot of fun learning about Vim, NeoVim. Here are a couple really good resource I found πŸ‘‡

Kinda run down into a rabbit holes today, had a lot of fun learning about Vim, NeoVim. Here are a couple really good resource I found πŸ‘‡

First of all try build in Tutorial go with Vim or NeoVim For vim it's `$ vimtutor` For NeoVim it's: `$ nvim` then type :Tutor (uppercase T) It only take 30 minutes but you familiarize yourself with very basic stuff

πŸ€” What do you think about this productized business $1000 for self-hosting NextJS app on selection of VPS (Hetzner, Digital Ocean, etc) #nextjs #self-host #buildinpublic

Go and β€œdownload” you some bluesky bookmarks πŸ˜ƒ.

Niyan Ng@niyanng.bsky.social

Finallyyyyy my bookmark extension is on the Chrome store πŸ˜‚ bluskybookmark.com The reason behind the delay: - I published it on weekend - I forgot the privacy page - I forgot to update the permission needed A lot of mistakes this time ✍️ #buildinpubllic #bip_year_end_challenge

whichpack.com right now is: - A NextJS app running on Vercel - It's DB is running on Neon.tech - It's crawler basically a Nodejs script that I ran manually on my macbook. I'm thinking of consolidate both 3 component on a Hetzner VPS. What do you think? My reason is below. (1/3)

whichpack.comFind which Starter Pack you are inFind which Bluesky starter packs include you as a member. Explore your community memberships and understand your social presence through the starter packs you're part of.

The performance of the whole app is not great, some page take 10 seconds to load (page with hundreds or thousands of packs) And running cost for Neon db is about 20$ per month. I think my main issue is with cost. (2/3)

I think by move both my NextJS + Postgres to same Hetzner VPS, will: 1) Save me some cost while keep this project running 2) Improve performance since there is no latency between nextjs app and db 3) Learn something cool along the way (I suspect this is the main motivation πŸ˜…) 3/3 What you think

Lot of interesting indie hackers from this list. Give them some love ;).

Traffic of whichpack.com after launch is stabilizing around 120 visitors per day. I would say it's pretty good compared to my previous products. (And... it didn't even exist 8 days ago) Thing can be improved: 42% bounce rate is pretty high #buildinpublic

Main issue with high bounce rate is mainly because many people cannot find their profiles. Mainly because they are not in any pack. 🎯 Action: Show them something else that they more interested in. Maybe some video showing how to get benefit from the site? Bounce = User only visit 1 page and leave

Lot of cool indie hackers is in this list. Give them some love guys.

#dev Suppose that I need to copy all of my data (4 GBytes +) of a postgresql db from Neon.tech (neon - server less postgresql) to a standard postgresql db running on a vps. What is the easiest way. Note the db is quite large, 4.4 GB.

This is lesser known tips, that help me to get in 10+ starter packs. Give it a try and let's me know ;).

Need help! I use Digital Ocean's managed PostgreSQL service. But latency between my Next's app hosted on Vercel to that DB seem really high Any other recommendation. I doubt that the network connection between my db and my app is not optimal! #buildinpublic
