Hard to believe it has been 25 years. A generation ago. I can still remember that morning as clearly as if it were yesterday. I'd worked graveyard shift the nite before & had gone to bed. Was awoken a couple hours later by loud voices in the living room.

I walked in just in time to see the 2nd plane hit. Las Vegas has/had a huge retired NYer population. We asked the ones we knew did you family there. Some did. Ome older gent began to cry at the question. He'd retired from Port Authority 2 years before & lost his entire day shift.

A coworker's nephew worked for Goldman-Sachs, they never found any trace of him. Her son-in-law was NYPD & it was just the grace of God he wasn't killed. I think about them on this day, and I pray for them.

When I'd heard that her husband of 60 years, Carl, had died, I kind of automatically started the countdown clock on Dolly. I did NOT want that to hold true this time, but I saw that again and again, working in the nursing home. One goes, and the other just...loses that spark of life. RIP, Dolly.

Shout-out to libraries. Where else can you just chill outside with a 4yo as you pretend to be magic fairies careening about a large grassy area, then pop indoors for air conditioning, coloring pages, and benches to read four books in a row that you then get to take home, no charge? Libraries rule.
