The Philippines could incur US$90.5bn in fossil system costs through 2040. 81% of that is fuel and variable costs. New modelling shows solar grows eightfold and 12 GW of battery gets built. But contract lock-in keeps coal and gas running. 🔗 bit.ly/4e8ITJ9

It's #EarthDay2026. Progress happens when people show up. For energy modelling, that means showing up with evidence.🌍 But modelling software is expensive. This is one reason we built Scenario Builder: a free, no-code energy system modelling platform. ➡️ bit.ly/46C5iKi

Coal outages in the Philippines surged 200% in 2025. ⚠️ The worst performers are the most contracted. When these plants go offline, supply tightens, potentially pushing up consumer prices through higher-cost alternatives. 📊 New TZ-CAT analysis: bit.ly/4svoq4E

Agentic modelling is here, but getting it right is hard. AI agents are probabilistic. Energy system models are deterministic. Our Head of Machine Learning explains how and why we built AMP, our AI modelling assistant. 🔗 bit.ly/4r4PEOP

Bangladesh’s rooftop solar push is gaining momentum, but progress remains modest. 🛰 Our satellite analysis estimates ~370 MWp installed as of Jan 2026, far below the 3,000 MWp target. 🔗 Full analysis → bit.ly/4ub1aLp

Meet AMP — TransitionZero’s AI modelling assistant. Understand scenarios, diagnose infeasibilities, and interpret results faster. Now in beta in Scenario Builder, our no-code power system modelling platform. 🔗 bit.ly/46C5iKi

🔄 Most energy models don’t talk to each other. Long-term planning ≠ hourly dispatch. Built in isolation, they don’t align. We built an interoperable data model linking TZ-OSeMOSYS and PyPSA — one common language for capacity expansion and dispatch. Read more: bit.ly/4rMhuAJ

🏭 Can coal plants in Southeast Asia run more flexibly? Technically, sometimes. Commercially? Much harder. Long-term PPAs, two-part tariffs & must-run clauses lock coal into baseload — even as solar and wind grow. Part II of our coal flexibility series explores why 👇 🔗 bit.ly/4aAHLut

🛰️ Indonesia's rooftop solar puzzle: plenty of sunshine, but minimal scale. Our satellite analysis found ~600 MWp installed - well short of the national target. The catch? 87% is concentrated in Java. The rest of the archipelago? Essentially zero. 🔗 Find out more: bit.ly/40eEoV2

Our Co-head of Modelling Abhishek Shivakumar will be in Delhi this week for the Google.org Impact Summit APAC 2026 (17-18 February) to share our work on building a no-code energy modelling platform. 💡 If you’ll be around, please reach out to Abhi directly — He’d love to connect!

🇹🇭 Thailand was once a solar energy pioneer of Southeast Asia, but in recent years, capacity growth has remained fairly flat. 🔍 Now, the rooftop solar market is back in focus as the government pushes a ‘Quick Big Win’ package to accelerate deployment, especially of residential systems...

During Singapore International Energy Week last year, we shared the exciting news that we are integrating Google’s Gemini into Scenario Builder. ❓ Scenario Builder is simple, accessible, and no-code — so that anyone, not just energy specialists, can explore and compare possible energy futures...

⚡ By bringing Gemini into the product, we’re aiming to go further: helping users move from questions to structured scenarios even more quickly, making it easier to navigate complex assumptions, and speeding up the most challenging planning decisions...

🏭 Despite this, coal remains the primary generation source, with over 30GW of coal plants already in the pipeline. 📈 In addition, India’s electricity demand is set to be one of the fastest-growing amongst major economies, possibly tripling by 2050 compared to current levels...

🎯 last July, India announced that it had met the target of 50% of installed electricity capacity from non fossil fuel sources. How? Competitive bidding, strong policy support, and generous solar and wind resources...

☀️ One of the most striking recent developments is the rapid growth of distributed solar. But at the same time, Pakistan has added large volumes of LNG and imported coal capacity over the past decade, locking in fixed costs that are increasingly misaligned with actual demand and fuel affordability...

Pakistan's power sector is a major contributor to the country's macroeconomic and fiscal stress. It's a story of weakened grid demand, high capacity payments, persistent circular debt, and a generation mix that has evolved very differently from what policymakers originally envisaged...

The DOE recognised TransitionZero for “providing modelling insights and policy analysis needed to identify least-cost renewable energy pathways, assisting in the design of policies and incentives to scale clean energy deployment.”

The award highlights work by Isabella Suarez, Head of Engagement (Southeast Asia), and the wider team driving our analysis and policy engagement in the country. Our sincerest thanks to the DOE and the Sustainable Energy Awards Selection Committee for the recognition.

🇲🇾 The Malaysian government has long viewed rooftop solar as a key lever for system decarbonisation, yet uptake has consistently fallen short of expectations, with low adoption reflected in official statistics. 👁️ We wanted to get a clearer picture of real, installed rooftop solar capacity...

🇯🇵  Japan is now on the Scenario Builder platform! ➡️ Now stakeholders interested in the political economy of Japanese energy can use our 9-node model of the Japanese mainland to dig around for insights. Access it here 👉🏻https://www.transitionzero.org/products/scenario-builder
