Tranquil 0.7.1 has been tagged and multi-arch docker images published. This security release includes a patched rustls-webpki that rejects the vulnerable certificates everyone is talking about.

nixpkgs PR has been submitted and the lovely @koi.rip is working on getting the alpine package updated too. if you know of other places that distribute tranquil please help us get word to them of the update asap!

So we don't usually make version update posts but this is a bit of a special one. We just released v0.6.7 which in and of itself isn't immensely interesting, it's a very bug fix heavy release just like v0.6.6. A lot of those bug fixes should fix compatibility with some apps namely Colibri. But ...

The even more interesting (for us) part is that with this update we are also expanding the maintainer team to officially include @jola.dev !! We are very excited to have her on board for the shenanigans! Lastly we've seen an upshot in community contributions and we are very thankful for that! :3

Okay now I'm (nel) tired of waiting for them to make their way through the nixos pipeline. Tranquil is officially in nixpkgs now! with a package for the backend and frontend and a module all based on the in-repo versions. v0.6.4 should hit nixos-unstable soon and v0.6.5 shouldnt be long after that

For the brave and reputable of us, instead of using a smarthost, you can also send emails directly from Tranquil PDS itself :P

In the latest update of Tranquil the server is writing records very noticeably slower than usual. This bug will be fixed within the week. Even this post is taking 10 seconds to succeed :P

We have seen a few people mention that they want to use tranquil but are waiting for a nixos module or for a nix package. So just to mention somewhere more visible: We have one!! an official one! of both of those. It's all in the tranquil repo, officially sanctioned! available as a flake.

Right now Tranquil idles at 20MB-60MB of RAM which we think is a little shameful. We gotta pump those numbers down

pds that is able to run on a vape

Hey everyone! Tranquil PDS Beta! We're in a spot where people use Tranquil every day. There may be bugs remaining, but they're hard to find without more users. The more people we have using Tranquil, the more we can improve it. Welcome, if you're feeling brave (and have backed up your rotation key)

Tranquil aims to be a PDS done "the right way". Yes it's a hobby project for us but it's also a project born out of a wish that we all had better options with more features. As the readme alludes to we want to be able to scale up to multiple node deployments but that doesnt mean we dont want to

be able to scale down. Everyone should be able to self host their PDS and have a good experience with modern features! No matter if they're a single person with their personal PDS or a big organisation providing account hosting for thousands or millions.

What features would you like to see in Tranquil that don’t exist in the ref implementation? We can do it all if you just ask nicely in an issue on our tangled repo

This account’s did:web is hosted by the PDS itself. This is an optional feature of Tranquil PDS! Even if a PDS-hosted did:web user decides to migrate off this instance, a minimal did-doc will be served and available to edit no matter where the user goes. Pros and cons in replies…

Pro: easy did:web without having own one’s own web domain and serve a doc there Con: if a PDS goes down, there goes the user’s identity, even if they’ve migrated away already

Con: even after migration your original pds technically has full control of your account and could theoretically take control of your account whenever it wants to. effectively undercutting credible exit Pro: self hosters get one single software stack to fully manage their account on atproto

We aim to be fully production-ready around March. Until then, no guarantee of stability. This serves as a warning to anyone using Tranquil PDS before we announce that it’s stable! There is a risk of total account bork. …at the same time we would love testers to find more bugs and quirks :P

just saying this out loud: we are not a company, we don’t want to make money, we’re not going to create some “hosted SaaS version” of tranquil that we try to force down your throat. we are just a bunch of nerds doing this for fun. this thing will always be open and free and transparent! :3

This account itself highlights one of the benefits of tranquil: it is "delegated". It's a shared organization account and doesn't need any password of its own. Lewis and Nel able to "act as" this account through OAuth, and we can continue to add whoever else we want to control it.

You are up to date.
