An isolated mountain cabin. A mysterious research project. An experiment gone terribly wrong. Watching the Dark’s Terry Morgan revisits Philip Chidel’s Subject Two (2006), an overlooked indie horror film worth discovering this Halloween. trailersfromhell.com/subject-two/

Last night, with a packed house, I attended the Academy's US premiere of the impeccable 4K restoration of the Hammer classic Horror of Dracula. Jack Asher's Technicolor cinematography looks fabulous. James Bernard's score sounds even better. If you can find it playing theatrically, go for it!

Corporate greed, illicit affairs, and plenty of pre-Code scandal. Warren William stars in Edgar Selwyn’s Skyscraper Souls (1932), a surprisingly cynical MGM drama. CineSavant’s Glenn Erickson revisits the film and Warner Archive Collection’s restored Blu-ray. trailersfromhell.com/cinesavant/s...

I was at a theater today and passed by a large standee for SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, the kind that prints out an entire review. Then, I did a double take, because the review was… MINE?! I don’t normally make a big deal out of being quoted, but a whole standee dedicated to my writing? That’s a first!

High School Angst Week concludes with Rock ’n’ Roll High School! P.J. Soles, the Ramones, and plenty of teenage rebellion collide in TFH Guru Allan Arkush’s 1979 cult comedy. TFH Guru Eli Roth revisits the film in his trailer commentary. trailersfromhell.com/rock-n-roll-...

The Devils was to be a one-week-only release, launching WB's new indie-ish and rerelease label Clockwork (which will purportedly survive the Skydance purchase). But it's done such big business ($2.3 million in five days) that it's staying in theaters. If you can, see this wild piece of film history.

Mark Harris@markharris.bsky.social

Just saw the restored, NC-17 version of The Devils. 55 years later, Ken Russell remains A LOT, for better and worse. But OMG, Vanessa Redgrave. One of our greatest actresses 100% committing to a part that could have been camp. She and Derek Jarman's production design lift this into the stratosphere.

High School Angst Week continues with Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Amy Heckerling’s 1982 comedy helped define the modern teen movie, with Sean Penn’s Spicoli leading the way. TFH Guru Karyn Kusama revisits the classic. trailersfromhell.com/fast-times-r...
