I hate how useless Google search has become. If I’m searching for a business near me, I’ll get a hundred results for businesses in other places that have just set up their SEO to say whatever city the search engine thinks you’re in. All of these results say “San Francisco” but most aren’t even in CA

Shopping for a very specific make/model/year/trim combo for our next car, and every single dealer is trying to get me to make an appointment and come in to try other things. I get that they want to make their pitch, but I know what I want already. I just need to find it. The pushiness sucks.

I’ve been getting clocked and misgendered lately, and I’m genuinely having trouble figuring out why. Maybe my voice? I think I look like a guy. A queer guy, but for sure a guy. But I keep getting called she/her/miss. I hate it. It’s starting to really get to me.

I have facial hair, a short haircut, a flat chest, and more body hair than almost every cis guy I know. I wear men’s clothing, cologne, and deodorant. So when someone looks at all that and then calls me “she,” I’m at a loss as to what else I should be doing. Vocal training?

We left the car in Castaic and rented a U-Haul to take us the rest of the way. Got to our hotel around midnight, and finally going to eat dinner from Taco Bell. But we have to get it delivered because the U-Haul can’t fit through the drive thru and the inside is closed.

I’m on an adventure with @tracey.science! We’re headed to a wedding in So Cal, but the car overheated on I5-S on the grapevine and wouldn’t cool down. Got a tow down the mountain and eventually got a mechanic to look at it. Radiator’s got a big crack in it, and the juices have all spewed out!

Staying at the Madonna Inn, which is usually really nice. This time though, the people in the room above us are playing loud music all day for the second day in a row. It is loudest inside of our room, and almost imperceptible outside. They themselves are also extremely loud.

I’m working on a puppet as a personal project, and trying some new techniques. I sculpted the basic shapes in monster clay, took a 3D scan, made the sculpture smooth and symmetrical in Nomad, subtracted room for mechanisms, and printed a prototype in foam TPU.

I hope that wherever Dolly is now, she’s with Carl. You could see how hard it was for her to be here without him, and how much of a toll it took. It’s devastating to lose her, but I can only imagine that’s a fraction of what she felt losing him.

I’ve been busy this week meeting with representatives from local unions about the school board race. I’m learning a ton, and am really glad I’ve been taking notes. I haven’t done handwritten notes in long enough I no longer recognize my handwriting, so that’s weird.

Even though I made him, I didn’t actually get a chance to wear Geordi Bear until Sunday night. I took him around the dealer room during the last hour it was open. I usually overheat in these kinds of suits, and it was 110 in Vegas. I was comfortable! #STLV #mascot #fursuit #startrek #TrektoVegas

And now he’s wasted so much time, she won’t get to finish her presentation. No time for questions. He’s still talking about something he thinks she should know about.

Very strongly agreed, it was taking us out of the panel focus a lot. Also: try and make sure the panel host is a bit of a subject matter expert in whatever the panel may be about. Doesn’t hurt.

Still absolutely reeling from today. STLV is always surreal, but wow. I won the cosplay contest? The judges who I admire very much gave the thing I made the highest score? I wasn’t even sure we would make it to finals, let alone win. It’s made better by sharing it with so many great friends.

My gabbers are 100% flasted! I’m so proud of everyone involved! Winning best in show, what an incredible honor, and at the biggest Star Trek convention of the decade!!

We won best in show at the #STLV cosplay contest! Huge thanks to @cmdrnyce.bsky.social for wearing Geordi Bear and performing the character so perfectly, to @fennecuskitsune.bsky.social for building the cooling system, and @rocketsystem.bsky.social for helping suit up.

Besides celebrating my anniversary with @captkoto.bsky.social , this is definitely the highlight of my trip to #STLV this year! Don't tell me to ham it up on stage if you don't want to win! I still can't believe we won! Thanks for giving me the chance to act a fool in front of the combined audience!

Also big thanks to Jesse for designing the guitar and Phil for building it. I do not have either of their bsky handles, not sure if they are on here. The guitar really adds a lot to the character, and it was great to have collaborators.

Someone explain why I get misgendered and my wife gets gendered correctly in the San Francisco area, but in Las Vegas I get gendered correctly and she gets misgendered. I’ve gotten correctly gendered 100% of the time here, which is unheard of at home. But I wanna punch anyone who calls my wife “sir”

I filed to run for school board in my city and qualified for the ballot. There are multiple seats up, and I know a few of the other candidates. Even if I lose, I think the city will come out of this with a much more effective school board, and that’s very comforting.

If I’m the best candidate for the job, then I want to win and serve my community. If someone else is a better candidate, I wouldn’t feel bad losing to them. As long as our schools are taken care of, I’m happy. It is a relief to see so many people interested in running.

Hot take: Sources for specialty fabrics, dyes, clays, and other materials shouldn’t be a secret. If you have to keep your materials secret, that just means your work isn’t unique enough on its own, so you need unique/proprietary material to prop it up on.

I just unfollowed someone whose work is otherwise excellent, because they seem more concerned with clicks and comments than they do with treating other people like people. “Teehee, let’s see how many days I can tease the same fabric in a row, and get hundreds of comments asking where to get it”

If you find a cool material, you should be excited to tell other makers about it, because they will use it in ways you haven’t thought of yet, and then you will learn too. Everybody wins when we make tools and materials accessible to others.

This is especially directed at fursuit makers who find suppliers for stretch furs, stretch minky, silicone, and resin, and then play coy about how/where they got it. You aren’t being cute and it makes you seem like you’re hard to work with when you ice out other makers. Be better.
