Best part about returning to SJC: seeing the pride and trans flags proudly flying next to the state flag ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

Slowly trying to catch up on 650 posts from mastodon like an animal. Seeing #PyBeach in my timeline, I wish it didnโ€™t collide with my racing again this year. Somedayโ€ฆ

Flying out of MKE was quite pleasant, with some beautiful views out the window, including flying over the Milwaukee Mile race track (not the track I was racing on).

Got my first practice laps in the race car today. Has some gremlins for other people to work out, but it was a wild ride! Scheduled to start the race tomorrow. ๐Ÿคž

finding out that my old arch server (that Iโ€™ve been meaning to finish migrating off of for two years now, natch) missed a pacman config migration and has been failing to upgrade its packages for 18 months now lol, lmao even

also its root partition has been out of space for I-donโ€™t-even-know-how-long, and yet, itโ€™s continued to successfully serve sites all this time, the beauty of static sites + read-only python services ๐Ÿ˜†

Great day to be traveling, catch up on security news from the past couple days, and thankfully remember that I eradicated PHP from my own servers a decade and a half ago and refused to install/use anything that required PHP since then.

I am STILL receiving recruiter spam from copies of my resume from 18 years ago kicking around in random databases being resurrected by companies somehow desperate for engineers in Rochester in a time when thereโ€™s more talent available for hire than ever before. nb: I havenโ€™t lived in Rochester [โ€ฆ]

Since the US tech companies can't decide if they are going to call it "artificial intelligence" or "super intelligence", I'm just going to call it "large language models" going forward. It's accurate and doesn't mistake LLMs as intelligent or in any way conscious.

My home internet finally came back around 30 minutes ago, just shy of *35 hours* of downtime. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

My fiber internet has already been completely out for 14 hours today, and AT&T is now saying it will be restored *tomorrow night* ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฌ

I love pairing this with Esc-h to shelve the command, run โ€˜man <command>โ€™, and then unshelve the command again. Even better is that if you have a piped command, it knows which part of the command your cursor is on and shows the appropriate man page. :blobfoxcomputer:

Itโ€™s a bit of a wild trip writing green field code for work, reading documentation for upstream libraries Iโ€™m using, and seeing them recommend using OSS libraries that I wrote. Like oh shit, Iโ€™m supposed to be an expert at this? ๐Ÿ˜น
