"I wrote a Skill for that" Yo, you wrote detailed documentation in a markdown file is what you did. How come you couldn't do that before now?

Sometimes I say "I will die on this hill" about something I care about, but I'm increasingly thinking: you know, I don't have to die on the hill; I could just visit it often for picnics and such.

Instead of sending an email generated by an LLM, just send the prompt instead. It's shorter for the recipient to read, they can more clearly see your true intent, it's cheaper, better for the environment, and if they really want to: the recipient can feed it into an LLM to get the long version.

There is a new autistic barbie out, but no one is talking about her mother, undiagnosed computer engineer barbie about to get the surprise of her life when she starts to argue with the evaluator that these are all normal childhood behaviours that she had when she was the same age.

amazing talk. they decap and also reverse the custom roland jp8000 dsp chip, make a faithful emulation plugin, and along the way reveal the famous supersaw as simply 8 detuned, aliased (!) 2x oversamped naive saws. youtu.be/XM_q5T7wTpQ?...

A Red-tailed Hawk that had just flown in to perch along the path. Check out the pupils! The pupil in the sunlight is smaller, while the pupil in the shade is larger. Most raptors can adjust their pupil size independently based on the amount of light that is reaching the eye, which optimizes vision.

Fair's fair, if I knew I'd be putting my name on this I wouldn't have been able to sleep either

A lot of folks know me for one or two posts, and might not know I've created nine (9!) visual explanations of computer science topics, aimed at practitioners. If you're looking for things to read this Thanksgiving, I think you'll love them. Computer science is a lot of fun, when explained well. ❤️

Gooners never say die

fesshole 🧻@fesshole.bsky.social

Overheard my kids saying "Gooning" to each other. Me being of a certain age shouted "I love that film" apparently Gooning is not the Goonie. My two girls 12 and 16 were horrified and in fits of laughter at me.

One lesson from yesterday's AWS outage is that we found a flaw in the advice to "have a Signal groups with core staff as a backup channel during outages". (So change that to also have their phone numbers so you can use WhatsApp or Telegram or SMS if needed.)

Guess I've always been old 🙃 YSK: properly fitting shoes are comfortable immediately. "You need to wear them in before they're comfortable" is something impatient parents tell their kids when they're tired of school shoe shopping, then the kids grow up believing it and tell their kids...

Anon Opin@anonopin.bsky.social

Ageing is realising shoe comfort matters. I used to wear pointy formal shoes for work, but upgraded to Doc Martens. Now realised they're too heavy and got some Skechers. Old.

Do uncomfortable shoes become more comfortable the more you wear them? Sometimes. But they also sometimes damage your feet, and you won't know which one it's going to be when you're trying them on in the shop. Life is too short for shoes that hurt you.
