Listening to a report about Google chopping down a quarter of a million trees in Finland to build a data centre while washing out yoghurt pots for the recycling

I think a part of this is the constant hype cycle/framing of: this is inevitable. The horse has bolted and we just have to accept whatever scraps the tech companies deign to give us. It is loser behaviour.

I cannot fully get my head around repeatedly seeing people catapult themselves in to the sun in an attempt to frame AI as something that can be positive. Right now, the use of AI, generative or otherwise, is unethical. End of conversation. You know what is true right now? We don't need to use it.

Turkeys sign the Charter of Ethical Use of Christmas Dinners. In what world did the SoA think this was protective and representative of their membership?

Really enjoying Tom’s (sigh) spooky season series of essays on horror sequels.

Obviously Arts & Culture is a huge contribution to the economy but that, I think, is meeting these people where they are. There are other benefits to our society that art provides that can’t be quantified. Don’t let them decide the terms of success.

I mean for one thing Neil, if you guys invested in the arts at all you’d have come up with a less embarrassing riff on the Bayeux Tapestry than that AI slop

Think this one has a nice mix of approaches to the illustrations! Jodie Foster is a lot of fun to draw but near impossible to accurately capture.

It feels so amazing to have @tomhumberstone.com & my poetry comic I KNOW THE WAY OUT nominated in three categories. But I’m going back through our collabs as prep for @comicartfestival.bsky.social and am reminded that we’ve been making them since 2011. Note to self: keep going, always keep going.

So glad Palantir, with its fingers all over our NHS medical data, likes to surveil and implicitly threaten our political representatives. Nothing to worry about here I suspect. www.foxglove.org.uk/campaigns/an...

It’s pretty nuts. Tom Watson’s very first intervention in his new job at spytech firm Palantir is to write a letter to his former colleague @labourlewis.bsky.social detailing all the times the firm has monitored his anti-Palantir activities
