1/ New research note on the AI capex chain in credit. Over three months the single-name CDS tape repriced the builders one by one — Oracle 37→318 bp, Broadcom 31→156, Nvidia and Meta given CDS markets they didn’t have — before equities moved on Wednesday and the index two days later.

3/ Why the names moved first: the collateral. I built residual-value models and the insurance wrap for aircraft leases. Aircraft are prime: decades of data, a secondary market, maintenance reserves. GPUs are subprime: 3–5yr life set by the maker, no residual history, worthless unpowered.

2/ The move crossed from the SEC’s public file (single names) to the CFTC’s (indices); visible in neither alone. Across eight life-insurer statutory books: $1.2bn Oracle at NAIC 2, $3bn hyperscaler bonds, $3.9bn data-centre ABS — and $48m of the tier that now wants to borrow from insurers.

Two more variables: → Hrdware: next-gen unified memory improves edge; next-gen GPUs improve cloud. Which will win? → Sftware: quantization advances help both, but disproportionately close the edge gap. Sunk data center costs don't get cheaper. Edge hardware does. @garymarcus.bsky.social thoughts?

"Trump chose to go to war and has taken explicit satisfaction in his power of life and death. War is a grave step after all other options have been exhausted. That Trump had other courses of action is well known. That he preferred this one is hard to unsee." My column. www.ft.com/content/2f3e...
