tbh my main impression of kanon before this week was like, "oh its an anime about something other than big guys punching each other so everyone online makes fun of it, but it seems cute" but it turns out that the protagonist of the show IS the exact person i imagined making fun of it.

i had some problems when i first watched clannad over a decade ago and some recent stories ive engaged with made me wonder if i would see it in a new light on rewatch but now im kinda worried that i will be bothered by it even more...

why dont they have races in the jet ski mode in snorts resort. time trials through rings are like, fine i guess, but i also think for the free roam stuff having the limited boost meter is the worst method of gaining speed compared to the skateboard and plane.

maybe its because the water is complicated enough that they figured for the weird exploring side mode it wasnt worth figuring out the npc behavior or netcode for it or something, idk.

sorry if its lame how much ive been posting about ai but i genuinely just dont get the hype, positive or negative. its a new technology with problems and benefits, and i dont really see it as a substantial paradigm shift outside of some very specific cases.

i think most of its biggest problems boil down to it being a new vector by which processes which already happened are continuing, and by being novel it has made those problems more visible, but it's really just the same shit on a different day imo

i 100% understand like, ai decomps being shitty because if the whole idea is that you want to understand the source code, and the source code the ai produces is unreadable, then its useless. i dont know wtf you expected if you're mad about a mod that puts ryu from street fighter in minecraft or w/e

a lot of the outrage about ai being used for games honestly feels a lot like when in the 2010s a lot of people just universally despised the unity engine because, even though a lot of great games were made with it, it made it a lot easier for anyone to make garbage, and the garbage was very visible

i get that if you see a thousand trash heaps made a certain way that one counterexample may not change your mind, but i dont think the tools to make something necessarily directly determine whether they're good or bad. i think someone making slop with ai would probably make slop without it too.

i love reading books that are frequently cited as like "wow the implications of this are so scary for society" and my main takeaway being something like "oh, so that's how i can condition myself to stop doing that bullshit i hate"

main thing i got from addiction by design that i didnt already gather from just hearing people talk about it was "oh, i bet if i sit close enough to a big tv that it takes up my entire field of vision that i could stay focused enough to make progress in dragon quest"

i just think its kind of unfortunate that the gran turismo update is split into two parts and one of those parts is an autumn themed track and that track is not coming out until the second part of the update after autumn is over

snorts resort is pretty cool. plane mode is probably better than the entire game of starfox26. skateboard mode seems kinda buggy.

first impression is golf, ping pong, archery, plane, and jet ski seem like where i will put in the most time. tennis, bowling, and boxing seem like they’re just here because they were in Wii sports so they‘re obligatory forever. maybe the coop sports are fun when you actually have a human teammate.

thumb wrestling is obviously a silly little thing. skateboarding seems like whatever is handling the boost input gets stuck. I couldn’t boost for like a minute and then once I did after a few more times the character got stuck with one foot on the board and then I couldn’t again.

idk man the main way i use AI right now is that im working through a math textbook, doing all the problems on pen and paper, but the book doesnt have an answer key, so I ask an AI for the answer after the fact to check my work. will every matrix i declare in a shader be vibe coded because of this?

i think next year i need to do with books what i did with movies this year (get and read enough new books that i like to replace the shelf space currently taken up by things i do not feel strongly about)

almost all of the reading that ive been doing since 2024 has just been finally getting around to reading all the books i bought in the prior decade and just let sit unread on the shelf. soon i will run out.
