A hazard of this job is regularly creating graphs that remind you of how insane the global economy is. How are we going to explain to future generations we used to ship a planetary body's worth of iron to China so it could ship it out as steel to the rest of the world?

Shipping green iron or steel out of Australia is the most obvious market disintermediation move in the world, and would rip out 3% of global emissions. It'd be a positive move for the economic security of our trading partners as well.

NSW Net Zero Commission estimates a 2.6 degree warming scenario will result in 10% lower Gross State Product and 290,0000 fewer jobs in NSW by 2070. * Meanwhile, expanding output of one of our largest coalmines will save (checks notes) 400 jobs. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

What makes a heat storm? We start by defining a heat wave: five or more days in a row in the hottest 10% of historical temperatures for that place and date. When a heat wave covers at least 1% of the globe — about half the size of Canada — it becomes a heat storm and gets a name. reut.rs/4zDCCwl

You are up to date.
