Your Paradise Killer Name is the 1st noun in your horoscope and the last thing you bought online. Nice to meet you, my name is Problems Dremel @kaizengameworks.com

To the extent that I have a brand here, it's not "Writes technical science + AI blogs with a bent towards owning and running your own models", but that is a thing I did! Getting the First 69% For Free With Decision Models www.autobio.blog/p/ec8bcdbe-2...

autobio.blogGetting the First 69% For Free With Decision ModelsI zero-shot labeled much of a bioreactor dataset using an open-weight decision model, local compute on my laptop, and prompts so basic that they're a little silly.

Everyone is doing performance art all the time now, and I'm torn, because it turns out I did want *some* people to actually do practical things with material value

I really do think there's an opportunity here to put the careful, time-consuming, expert work into building consensus around data interchange standards. Then every just writes their own fine beautiful mess of a runtime software package.

just on the front of software, it means that leftists and leftist orgs can/should be leveraging agentic workflows to create alternative software to rely less on big tech and embed custom software across their campaigns/activism in a much deeper way than ever before possible

Not saying this to take away from the value of the product. I just think we need to be clear that what we have made is a normal kind of software product rather than a gravity-defying super-machine that we should bet the economy on.

Once again, happy birthday to all those people whose birthday reminders have migrated through all my phones over the years and whom I no longer know.

My favorite was when Calypso told him to stop eating the lotus and he said "But I like it!"

The hardest I laughed in the Odyssey was when Odysseus turns tail from his risen dead warriors and yells, “Let’s goooo!”

I keep saying this

Lots of ink spilled on "Loop engineering", but no one seems to connect it to its much older name: Cybernetics. Maybe by the year's end, we'll recognize that it was all Control Theory engineering all along.

The more general version of the question has interested me for a while. Specifically, why does anyone of any political persuasion care about the opinions of 20 year college students right this second? This book was the closest to an answer I've found: press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/bo...

press.uchicago.eduThe Lost PromiseThe Lost Promise is a magisterial examination of the turmoil that rocked American universities in the 1960s, with a unique focus on the complex roles played by professors as well as students. The 195...

I read this entire article and could not for the life of me figure out why it was news. They picked a speaker, some students wrote a letter saying they don’t like the speaker. This is the sum total of what happened. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/13/u...

Poach us please! We have a successful project, the Mothbox, used by dozens of researchers, being invited to workshops give keynotes around the world! But not enough people realize: A) we are out of $$$ + mostly volunteering b) YOUR group can claim the Mothbox by just hiring us to keep working!

Last week the bioGraphic team learned that, owing to an ongoing financial deficit, the California Academy of Sciences—where we’ve made our home for the past decade—will no longer be able to provide us with financial support, including support we were expecting this year.

Confident I'll need this later. Unclear why

The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me. It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."

Truly incredible. Also, they are reading their emails? What is on their calendar? "Working Elsewhere"?

* SHOULD this require a Ph.D.? no obviously not come on. but it does make sending these emails easier when I don't know whether the recipient is going to be Cool or need like... external validation to take me seriously, ya know? I didn't make this society, baby, I'm just living in it!

“We don’t have to live like this!” @nonbinary.computer kept saying this phrase in their talk and i vote we start saying this instead of “we can just do things”

Went back to Sec 6 of Stochastic Parrots today (in the context of answering a query from a journalist) and was reminded how thoroughly we grounded that part in a discussion of language use -- y'know as communication between people.

Tech’s signature move is to turn an oncoming coordination crisis into a career ladder, and it’s fun seeing it happen in real time

This is actually my take on the @socarxiv.bsky.social question of whether to set policy banning fully AI-generated submissions - literally writing the prose is an important part of connecting with readers. As in faith-based fellowship, the act of being in community is an important part of Science.

Legitimately wondering if this actually had an impact on the company though. I think maybe these products have taken off so hard because actually most companies don't operate in a way where it matters if they have good information.
