The Third Sub

The Whitecaps wrapped up their road trip with a flat 1-0 loss to Colorado. With Vancouver struggling to find its rhythm, the concern is less about the results themselves and more about the performances behind them. #VWFC thethirdsub.ca/2026/10/25/p...

A bit locked into this provincial election drama, but I'll gather my thoughts and the Post Match will be up in the AM. Plenty to talk about. #VWFC

Fulltime: The Whitecaps get dog-walked by a team in the play-in places and lose 1-0. It's one of those games where grinding out a point would be a decent result, but failing to do so makes this a pretty concerning performance. #VWFC

What an odd goal. No less than the Rapids deserve, but a gut punch for the visitors with less than 10 mins left. #VWFC

Playing with fire here, more of what we saw in the first half, Whitecaps too loose and open in transition. #VWFC

Better play on the ball there from #VWFC

HT Thoughts: -Pretty low event overall, lots of low quality looks from the Rapids, Vancouver only 0.05 xG -Need sharper play on the ball entering the final third -Defending has looked fine, other than maybe set pieces -Badwal and maybe Selemani in the second half? #VWFC

Rapids left open at the far post on the corner and that was nearly 1-0. Priso and Takaoka there to stop it. #VWFC

Here we go! #VWFC

Whitecaps settling into a rhythm here with the XI. Good to have Priso back starting, and can Diaby keep up his play? #VWFC

The Whitecaps turned things around in Texas. Ryan Gauld and Yadaly Diaby led the Caps to a 2-1 comeback win over Austin FC, giving Vancouver some breathing room at the top of the West. #VWFC thethirdsub.ca/2026/10/18/p...

FT Thoughts: -Not a perfect showing, but good enough to get the job done. -Gauld and Diaby star in the comeback. -White can't buy a goal. -Some well earned rest, having opened up the lead in the West. #VWFC

Nice save from Takaoka at close range. #VWFC

Brian White is, on one hand, one of the best pure No. 9s this league's ever had. And on the other, he is one of the worst 1v1 finishers I've ever seen.

Oh no BW, what is u doin? #VWFC

Vancouver a bit lucky the whistle was blown there. #VWFC

Diaby!!! 2-1. #VWFC

Great ball from Sabbi, perfect header from Gauld. 1-1 just like that! #VWFC

HT Thoughts: -Well, a solid half from the Caps, save one big moment. -Caicedo has been creating, midfield has looked strong. -Going to need a big moment from White, Gauld, in the second half. #VWFC

Ooof, horrific backpass from Tate there. 1-0 Austin out of nothing. #VWFC

Hmmm, contact probably starts outside the box anyhow. #VWFC

Cvetkovic looking sharper and more confident today. #VWFC

Not much happening in the first 20 mins, until Stuver gives it away...but Bruno skies it high of target. #VWFC

Here we go! #VWFC

Interesting...Sørensen goes back to Laborda and Blackmon at the back. New midfield combo as well. #VWFC

A playoff preview in St. Louis? The Whitecaps and City played out a 0-0 draw, but Vancouver showed encouraging signs of returning to form. With the playoffs looming, could we see these two meet again with much more on the line? #VWFC thethirdsub.ca/2026/10/14/p...

FT Thoughts: -Not a great second half for the Caps, but a big point on the road -Second match in a row looking more like themselves against a good team -White big chances missed -Gauld and Takaoka tremendous showings #VWFC

Gauldy 🫡 #VWFC

Becher slips free and Takaoka has to make a huge 1v1 stop. #VWFC

STL now adopting a more dominant posture. Important for Vancouver to absorb and respond. #VWFC

Jeez, that was a bigger miss than the first one for White. #VWFC

HT Thoughts: -Very good road half from the Caps -Midfield very strong so far -STL injury killed some momentum -A couple big chances missed -Bench is pretty then, how will Jesper manage that? #VWFC

Now Laborda off the crossbar. Vancouver really came to play here so far. #VWFC

Difficult angle, but man, that could have been 1-0 right there. #VWFC

Here we go! #VWFC

Laborda in. Otherwise, #VWFC are running it back. Big one in St. Louis.
