I needed a fun distraction to get my mind off of my mental health crisis: fix the Macintosh LCIII from merging two different machines. One battery bombed and the other one busted up.

I think I am starting to hit mid-life crisis. It didn't really start settling in until the passing of my parents last year. Knowing I am on my own, no family to call my own, no life partner, an upside-down mortgage, no retirement accounts and only barely scraping by. It's really starting to eat me.

Back in Feb, i tripped and fell on the hardwood floor, injured my back enough where I could not move. I wasn't near my phone. it took me a long time to get there and tell someone. In that moment? That's when I realized. I... am... alone... if I died from that, nobody would know ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Sorry I am having a crashout right now but this has been weighing on my mind for awhile, growing since the passing of Dad back in December. With the death of him, left me permanently alone in the blood sense. It's so hard.

But in the end i feel like I am perpetrating my own narrative by being a victim of my executive functioning issues stemming from both autism and PTSD. I've had people yell at me to do this, and that, but to me? that feels like asking me to write something down when I have no arms or hands to do it.

But the reality? And this is what hits cold: If something happened to me tomorrow, or today, or whenever. A medical emergency. it might be days before someone finds out. Why? I am very much alone and live alone with no IRL friends to check on one another, or family. That makes me feel cold

People told me therapy, maybe thats the answer but. That requires money, and that also requires proper working executive functioning to... you know... go do that thing. Guess what still hasnt been done. Yup.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy tinkering on projects, fixing stuff, etc. I have done that all my life. But i'm entering a life stage where my soul is SCREAMING at me that this is not the way, and life progress itself is forcing me to jump tracks. But perhaps? Maybe its noise.

Living with a mental disability such as Autism/ADHD/CPTSD is absolute hell, because this is what it does to the mind and what I have to live with every single waking moment of my life. if my executive functioning actually... you know... worked, that'd be greeeaaatttt

My teenage downstairs room/lab in late 2004 just before the foreclosure. It was such a fun but tumultuous time. Mom in prison, and I was in survival mode. But i was still having fun!

Now that's what im talking about! Compaq Presario 1247 is all buttoned up, but the CD-ROM drive also died. No laser movement, no eject, no detect. Gotta find another one

My childhood laptop lives again! I never would have suspected that a bad bios chip would stop it from physically turning on. But it makes sense when the EC firmware is stored in there! I actually fixed a dead motherboard

So the EC on these particular machines downloads its boot code from the BIOS chip, and since the firmware valid pc0 line doesn't raise, you know what we gotta do

Finally got the power back after yesterdays outages, although its still windy and it is still flickering. Anywho, I picked up this Thinkpad 560 yesterday off the free table at the monthly AHCS meeting! Sadly, has vinegar syndrome.

Well I threw Claude at the firmware, the beeping of the AC adapter is coming from the embedded controller and not the CPU. The CPU is dying off before it even initializes the RTC. I need to plug a serial cable in because Claude found an undocumented mode where you can reflash over serial

Figured it out. the 82371MX Southbridge is bad. It gets stuck in an ISA read sequencer loop indefinitely on the reset vector read, without completing the PCI transaction requested by the northbridge. That IC is expensive and hard to find, so its scrap.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the only problem. Now it powers up, but it does not POST. I think I narrowed it to a dead Dallas RTC/CMOS. /CS goes low and hangs, and there is bus activity. 32.768Khz is dead, with or without a battery.

And the final one before the storm: Macintosh IIx. This one is running again, CPU had no clock signal. Chased that back to a bad 74ALS374, and one open trace for the power circuit. RAM issues also ensued, so new 74F258s and now its finally alive!

Here was another pain in the butt one to fix. Macintosh SE/30. Two broken traces, shorted CPU between D12 and d13, two bad LS393, and bad LS166. And bad SWIM โ›ˆ๏ธ

This was a fun repair, but I got it working! Macintosh Classic II. Needed a DFAC, an EGRET and 2 patch wires. Took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out, swapping between 3 DFACs.

nothing better than getting in your car and driving down the road then getting a nice wiff of strong gas. ugh. sprung a leak somewhere. Story of my life ๐Ÿ˜’

I cannot remember the movie, but mom/dad was watching a horror film in the livingroom, and I distinctly remember a scene where this lady sticks her tongue down this guys mouth, all the way to his heart, punches it out of his chest and eats it... that one SCREWED ME UP as a child. Traumatizing

One thing that drives me nuts since I caught covid in 2021 and again in 2023, are the phantosmia symptoms that are chronic. They come and go. Everything smells like burnt fabreeze/fruit. Currently going through that again, and it lasts a couple weeks. Drives me NUTS!
