CBS identified Illinois based Three Z Printing as the holder of the permit associated with the fake transgender mailers. One of the owners, Matt Zerrusen, is based in Dallas. His Instagram shows pictures with Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump, and comments from local Republicans.

The government doesn’t track how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve tallied more than 500 Americans held against their will in warrantless arrests and detentions during President Trump’s second term.

Today's News Brief: Austin EMS suspects a new synthetic opioid, cychlorphine, is in town, likely mixed with other street drugs. In a recent 30-day stretch, nine overdose patients needed multiple doses of Narcan — some as many as six.

Wrote about this yesterday - by a quirk of how expensive campaigning in Texas is, Ken Paxton and his soon-to-be-ex-wife were all your TV no matter what part of the country you live in lol www.chron.com/culture/arti...

chron.comWhy Texas Republicans beamed Ken Paxton into living rooms across AmericaIt's literally cheaper to buy a nationwide TV ad than in some of Texas' biggest media markets.

Okay saw I saw this from a guy who works at cbs, apparently it's because it's literally cheaper to just book ads during a national game than it is to do it on a local station in Texas

Good news: Wilber Garces Perez finally had surgery to remove the bullet that was in his back for 11 days. It took far too long, and it's more proof of ICE cruelty. But we kept up the pressure, and Wilber got the care he needed. Speaking up for our neighbors works.

Today's News Brief: The man shot in the back by an ICE officer in North Austin is now charged with assaulting a federal officer, and the criminal complaint says the officer who fired had no body camera.

The other officer says he turned his camera off during the chase. ICE's own investigators lead the federal probe. So far, only the man who was shot is charged.

Update, Sept. 30: A judge kept Wilber Garcés Pérez in federal custody, so he won't return to Pearsall. The DHS agent who signed the complaint testified he never interviewed the officer who fired. (via KUT)

Today's News Brief: Texas voter ID, explained. Seven forms count, including a Texas driver license, Texas ID card, handgun license, U.S. passport and military ID with photo.

ID expired? Under 70, it counts up to four years past expiration. 70 or older, any expiration works. Can't reasonably get a photo ID? Bring a supporting document, like a utility bill or paycheck, and sign a form at check-in.

Voting by mail? Your ID number or last four of your Social Security number goes on the application AND the envelope. In the 2022 primaries, Texas rejected nearly 25,000 mail ballots, mostly over that number (state figures via NPR).
