With only using one color for the stripes, I just had to carry the stripe color up the side of the shawl the same manner in which the main color gets carried up the side.

An easy way way to work with color without having to deal with a lot of ends, no matter when you decide to weave them into your fabric.

@lolabeanyarnco.com had recently released two colorways that I thought would work well together, Yacht Rock and Vintage Vinyl, with some of the speckles in Yacht Rock being the main color of Vintage Vinyl.

I got mini-skein set from @knitterkim.bsky.social at MDSW along with a coordinating full skein of Granite in Napoleon Sock, which has enough silk in it to give it some drape. I did a yarn wrap to test out the color order that I wanted, and then proceeded to make this spring inspired version.

Those, with a full skein of Peace (which is one of the colors in the Over the Rainbow Fade Set), became the second version of Satisfying Stripes shawl.

In the pattern, I talk about planning your stripes by weighing how much you have of each remnant and keeping the order of the little balls of yarn once you have weighed them all, in case you are worried about running out of a color mid-stripe.

I went looking through my bins of project leftovers, and found the remains of the Over the Rainbow Infinity Fade Set by Fiber Optic Yarns that I used for designing the Wavelength Wrap.

This is where Satisfying Stripes began. At Yarncentrick this year, when I saw all of the colors at @woolandvinyl mini-skein bar, I thought "Let's make something fun." #knitting #textillianstudios #satisfyingstripesshawl #woolandvinyl #classicrocksock

What stitches was I going to use for those stripes? No clue. But I did know I was going to start with garter stitch and could figure out the rest later.

After thinking it through, I decided that I could just use the minis as garter stitch stripes and just make this a relaxing knit that was easy to do, but still a great opportunity to play with color. Wool and Vinyl will have kits available at Cakepalooza and Frederick Fiber Fest.

So, I picked three fluorescent colors (John, Paul, and Cheap Sunglasses) and went with a full skein of Maneater to bring it all together. I was thinking an asymmetrical triangular shawl with some kind of stripes at the wider end.

This shawl checks off a few things on my list: knit something simple that is easy to memorize, use leftovers or mini-skeins while still breaking out a new skein, and use plenty of color. #knitting #satisfyingstripesshawl

The garter stitch adds a bit of texture. I decided on this triangular shape to help move the colors around to prevent pooling. I will go more into each more into each shawl in future posts.
