yesterday, my postdoc funding (salary and research funds) was cancelled by the National Science Foundation, effective immediately. I received the same generic, vaguely threatening, typo-ridden email as many of my colleagues who have had their awards terminated recently. (1/n)

Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank. said about private finance: “It is not a panacea for everything. This idea that the trillions are waiting in the private sector to rush into the development of a poor emerging market country — that’s not what I’m telling you”. Just tax it if you „need“ it 🙄

Using readwise shows me how many people who like learning are into crypto stuff, sadly. Probably correlated to privilege of money & time? Also it feels like many people are interested in things they have already learned many times, instead of trying to extend. However uncomfortable it may be

Why didn't farmers discover the scientific method first, and then spread it to new areas? "Try the new technique on 10% of the field, keep the rest the same for comparison," seems like a very natural idea for a farmer to come up with, in hindsight.
