I can appreciate the angst and the concerns, but here's a radical thought: If any candidate of any (existing or future) party could successfully roll out a true centrist platform, they would mop the floor with the left and the right.

Calling their bluff: This is a recent incident in Russia's long-running low-grade war with the west. I don't recall where I saw a very sensible suggestion: Hit back. If Russia pulls a stunt like this, their Internet goes down for a day, or they can't trade currency for a day. Make it cost them more.
