Unsurprising, especially after the "flying car" stunt. Feels like it was always the endgame.

SpaceX and Tesla are exploring a merger. Elon Musk says that his two biggest companies have formed special committees to discuss becoming one company. A SpaceX-Tesla merger would create a $3.6 trillion company at current prices, assuming it can overcome the hurdles from shareholders and regulators.

Very cool! Alex is particularly wonderful at breathing life into these classic characters, that (for most of my life at least) have existed only in the background of awareness.

The news is out! I'll be taking over writing the daily and Sunday strips for The Phantom, with amazing artists @drawmanley.bsky.social and @jeffweigel.bsky.social.

Instant dopamine hit from @charliejaneanders.com ‘s Star Trek Zero Point comic. Had to snag a print copy, as a fan from the io9 journo days way way way back when. What a perfect pairing — hopefully a stepping stone to someone hiring her to write Doctor Who next.

Quick Skydance analysis from a former media biz reporter: With this much debt, DC Comics is definitely getting sold to Netflix for north of $20BILLION within the next 24 months -- representing about 1/3 of its total debt ($77B).

Those publisher tactics: Gotta Catch 'em All... bags.

Being in Nashville for Dolly’s passing is the equivalent of a giant celebratory wake, offering communal bereavement by blaring her music from every shop or car radio with the windows down. If you’ve ever lived here, you get it.

Spoilers: Sebastian Stan will be playing Harvey Dent, Victor Zsasz, Condiment King, the Penguin's umbrella, and Absolute Bat-Mite in The Batman: Part II.

Nah… those are errors. They speak to our humanity, and have always been there.

So… I’ve spent the last 2 months deep diving into digital comics platforms for a massive multi-part feature for @weirdcitymedia.com. Handful of really ambitious startups stepping up, but I don’t know wtf to make of VeVe Comics/Collectibles.

Again, this goes back to how safe the main Marvel line has been. If you're going to let Hickman cook, that means breaking the toys for a few years, and Marvel seems unwilling to commit to that these days.

Jamie Lovett@jamielovett.bsky.social

The thing is, Hickman works best (on superhero comics) when he's reinventing something people already care about in cool ways. They keep throwing him on stuff no one cares about (the mystical Marvel stuff with GODS, space Marvel with Imperial), and so the sales can't justify the slow burn.

it actually brings me great pleasure to know that billionaires are so afraid of journalists that they’re trying to build whole new systems for justice to diminish our power. despite corporate consolidation, we continue to do something they can’t fully buy and it drives them mad. stay mad, assholes.
