@tammyeverts.com and @csswizardry.com have both written a lot about this, so I don't feel like I need to write another blog post. Read theirs! And set up some alerts in your synthetic monitoring :) www.speedcurve.com/blog/perform... csswizardry.com/2020/01/perf...

Going fast enough to become "dial tone" changed user behaviour and expectations in a hugely positive way for the product. The "no such thing as too fast until you prove it" lesson is everywhere, and anyone who tells you that you can just add an animation and move on is a danger to your product.

The research done by @tammyeverts.com about rules of thumb for good perf not being universal is on the web only, but I bet my bottom dollar that the same holds for mobile: that if your perf targets, ceiling or floor, are not based on your specific app and user base, you might want to reassess.

Soooo hire me to make your website even faster than you think it needs to be???!
If you make websites for a living, stop what you're doing and read this research by @tammyeverts.com; it shows what many of us have been saying for a long time: even if there is such a thing as "fast enough", it's generally *much* faster than you are targeting: embrace.io/blog/research-co…

Wow, I SUCK at blogging. It has been 12 YEARS since my last post! I've been wanting to move off of blogger to a modern SSG framework for a while but never had the time or energy to. Luckily, that's one of the things the current AI tools are really good at: blog.patrickmeenan.com/2026/02/27/i...
This is a very good read.
Glad to stumble upon this post by Margaret-Anne Storey. It echos some of my recent experiences with Generative AI. It's very quick to spin up something that is quite large and complex and you don't know how it works. And a lack of understanding is technical debt. margaretstorey.com/blog/2026/02...
