Inside the humanities we’re slowly losing our minds as we shout this til we’re hoarse—of course education in the name of ROI is an ideological project! Of course, treating knowledge as a content strategy results in bullshit! Still bracing to read this eloquent call to close the business schools

Scrooge is defending the New Poor Law of 1834 which centralized state support for the poor, but he has to decide that private charity is a better alternative. Most of us would advocate for government support, not a thousand points of light. Ie, his position is not evil.

"Working class" in 2026 means a blue haired barista with they/them pronouns, a Asian immigrant nail technician, and an undocumented hotel cleaner. And we are going to keep having the same fights until we let the midcentury illustrator mirage of the white guy in plaid with the lunch pail go.

“I have a PhD in atmospheric physics. I spent a decade measuring greenhouse gases from satellites. The thing that made me good at it was reading poetry. It trained me to notice what was not being said in a dataset. Every critical decision I made as a scientist was interpretation, not computation.”

This is so cool! I'm smitten by this info: the contract "was written out twice on a large piece of parchment that was then cut in half along a wavy or tooth-shaped line" so they could be fitted back together to confirm their authenticity.
