Had a conversation with my wife and I mentioned that if someone out of the blue said, "I think you're hot/cute" my brain would refuse it and I would use humor to deflect ("ma'am this is a Wendy's" type thing). My wife responded that I do that to her, so TL;DR I don't know how to take a compliment.

I've been seeing discourse on folks credit feeding (playing a game, getting a game over and then continuing) versus 1CC (1 credit clear - beating a game without continuing). Do what makes you happy. If you want a 1CC cool; if you want to credit feed, cool. Arbitrary rules for games are dumb.

I understand the crux lies with old arcade games designed to encourage credit feeding (like with beat 'em ups), and being seen as more hostile toward players, but these games can be 1CC'd. Think credit feeding is expensive? Putting in tons of coins to get good enough for a 1CC is expensive too.

SHMUPS: This soundtrack is phenomenal! ALSO SHMUPS: I picked up the laser power up and I think the voice was supposed to say "laser", but it sounds like it mumbled the word "pickle".

HOMEMADE CHEESECAKE RECIPE: 18 graham crackers, crushed 3 tbsp melted butter 1 cup sour cream ¼ cup all-purpose flour 1 tbsp vanilla extract 4 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese ¾ cup white sugar ⅔ cup milk 4 large eggs 1 tsp lemon zest 1 tsp orange zest

Stir cream cheese and sugar together in a separate bowl until evenly incorporated; add milk and whisk until just combined. Whisk in eggs, one at a time, stirring well. Stir in lemon and orange zest, and sour cream mixture; whisk until combined.

Pour mixture into prepared springform pan. Bake in the preheated oven until edges have nicely puffed and the surface of the cheesecake is firm (about 1 hour). When cheesecake is done, TURN OFF THE OVEN and let it cool in the oven for 3 to 4 hours. Use a water bath to prevent cracks in cheesecake.

Preheat oven to 350° F (175° C). Lightly grease bottom and sides of a 9-in (22.86 cm) springform pan. Mix graham cracker crumbs and melted butter in a bowl. Press crumb mixture into bottom of the springform pan. Whisk sour cream, flour, and vanilla extract together in a bowl.

HOMEMADE EGG NOG RECIPE: 8 egg yolks ⅓ cup sugar 4 cups milk 2 cups heavy cream 1 ½ tsp nutmeg 1 ½ tsp cinnamon Place egg yolks in pan. Whisk sugar until well blended. Add milk and cream; whisk constantly so it doesn't turn into scrambled eggs. Cook on medium until 170° to 180° F (75° to 80° C).

My wife @systemreactor.bsky.social made eggnog y'all. First eggnog of the season.

With the egg whites, make it into a meringue and add it to the egg nog once it cools: 8 egg whites 2 tbsp sugar The secret to meringue (for me) seems to use a steel bowl, cold eggs out of the fridge, and add sugar a little at a time while whipping the mixture so it creates stiff peaks.

The world is becoming harsher for transgender people right now. Darkness stretches before and behind them, and the pain is growing. Their wish remains simple — to love who they love and live true to themselves🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 This is why we must join hands and change the world with compassion.

My wife @lynnindenver.bsky.social found a tvone CR-2100 (Down Converter) and CR-2200 (Video Scaler) at thrift for around $21.00 for the both. Gonna be doing some research this weekend to see what they can do. My wife found a thread over on the Shmups System11 forum as well that goes over these.

She also found a Pioneer DV-400V DVD player for $16.00. Fully works (we tested it). Appears to also be region free and has a USB input that takes .mp3, .mpeg and can run .jpg slide shows(!)

In my last therapy appointment, I discussed my complicated relationship with creating art. TL;DR a college art professor told me that "art was not for me" (not hyperbole, he actually said this), and I just gave up and didn't challenge him or fight back.

So, now I'm seeing if I can get it back and actually create something and the whole process is terrifying. Fear has been my number one enemy and it's hard to get rid of it as it was easier to give up then deal with the possibility of being vulnerable and getting hurt.

"Oh, just one more thing... ah geez, I really hate to do this, but you miscalculated your last play, and I'm gonna have to play Exodia on ya. It's nothing personal, but I'm afraid that's how the game is played."

The word "shmuppers" is used for folks that are fans of shmups, right? Hear me out - that word sounds like the Smuckers. You know - the grape and strawberry jelly people? I'm tellin' you that's where FULL EXTENT OF THE JAM comes from! It's all a conspiracy! WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT

My wife @lynnindenver.bsky.social found actual street sign overlays (they measure 12" x 12"). I was considering fixing the backs to make them clean. But I think the distressed look is way better. Be interesting to figure out what we want to do with these.

Have to think about how I want to hang and light these lenses I ran across at the thrift store today.

Gaming Hot Take: It is okay (and healthy) to let things go. You don't have to be loyal to a company, platform, franchise, publisher or developer if they go in a direction or have policies you don't agree with. YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOUR REASONING TO ANYONE.

Am I capable? Cooking: Yeah Whistle: Nope. Draw: Used to. Paint: Same as above. Swim: Yes. English: Yeppers. Sing: Oh gods no. Drive: All the time. Gifting: I could be better. Write: Yes (and I seem to be good at it?!) Guitar: Nope. Could never get the hang of instruments. Speaking: Sort of?

My #RandomGameSaturday is my collection of Legend of Zelda games spanning the NES to Switch. I know it's technically more than one game, but I'm making up for not posting a game on Saturdays. Happy 40th anniversary to one of my favorite video game franchises. #zelda

Real Talk: In my last therapy appointment, I spoke to my therapist about how I too easily gave up power (my words). For the longest time, I would take something at face value as truth and would acquiesce rather than stand up for myself.

I'm better thanks to therapy, but I'm upset that I could've spent my time enjoying these things and not caring about what everyone else thought rather than wallowing in self-pity and depriving myself of experiences that could have made me happy.

That music, art, game, movie, hobby, that I was into and was told sucked I just took to heart and either never interacted with it again or did it in secret ashamed for liking what I liked.

This is what I woke up to this morning. My wife @lynnindenver.bsky.social knows I think angy rain frogs are cute and proceeded to have a bunch of silently judging while looking at me. Gods I love this woman.

"SWEETHEART?!" (while almost laughing) "How many did you print?" I might have printed up 30 of these little guys and placed them around the house before bed. She's found 17 of them so far. :D
