In an incredible move, Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Alberta, Canada has announced a gender-affirming care clinic for trans youth, asserting tribal sovereignty and defying the region's ban. It is one of the biggest cross-movement solidarity moments in Canada. Subscribe to support our journalism.

you were a 25-year-old baby. meanwhile i was 14 & joining protests to defend my persian neighbors, & organizing demonstrations against your war. but you were just a baby.

I’ve heard us referred to as “9-11 Babies”, given the surge of young people who signed up for the military, intelligence community, State Department and other national service.

It's also so weird to imply that teenagers were signing up for the military en masse because of some kind of patriotic fever and not the fact that they were literally trying to bring back the draft and had army recruiters stationed in public school cafeterias nationwide. bsky.app/profile/slot...

This is such a delusional takeaway. What I remember is the general public being swept into such a jingoistic fervor that you had to put an American flag on your house and your car so you weren't harassed or worse. It was open season on Muslims—and then by extension any other marginalized group.

But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

Labor Day belongs to working people! It belongs to care workers who keep our families healthy, airport workers who keep us moving, janitors who keep our workplaces running, public service workers who keep our communities strong, & working people whose labor makes America work every day. #LaborDay

A cracking tale of aliens and coffee with exploding bodies galore. Rather smartly ripping off Ridley Scott and Fulci it nails the Italian pulp brief nicely. 1980. #horrorcommunity #horrorfamily #horrormovie #horrorfilm #horrorfan #italianhorror #horroraddict #filmsky #horrorsky #mutantfam #horrorfam

I like how this looks like a movie about three girls in their 20s who just don't get along but all have to live together after their grandmother leaves them her rambling mansion in her will, with Sarah McLachlan as their kooky aunt who's also the mayor.

still globe-hopping via horror: australia, nepal, antigua & barbuda, & the northern mariana islands, respectively. currently at 106/169 on my quest to see a horror movie from every country that's made one. (T-BLOCKERS was just for fun; i crossed off oz long ago.) #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

remember an art youtuber (Marc Brunet?) talking about ways to make money as an artist and saying something like "and if you have no morals you can always draw nsfw".. as if working in a games industry that tries to get children addicted to gambling is the more worthy use of your talents lol

Speak Easy Art 🔞@speakeasy-art.bsky.social

Seeing some of my fave "big-name" artists on BSKY joking that they might have to stoop to making erotic art to make a living has me miffed. Erotic art has A) been artistic subject matter in all time periods and cultures, and B) Erotic artists are ALWAYS at the front of threats against the arts.

I speak often about the moral weight of disgust. In this instance of censorship, the president of the university offers no rationale for his decision beyond his revulsion at the story in question. Adults who act this way cannot be permitted to participate in guiding society.

i would never stoop so low as to watch true crime content. what i watch is called true horror, & it's about awful things happening to regular people, like roller coaster accidents, plane crashes, caving/climbing disasters, etc. i MUST know every way to die. it's NOT a maladaptive coping method.

YOU DON'T "CONSUME" ART MOTHERFUCKER. YOU EXPERIENCE IT. YOU FEEL IT. YOU ENGAGE WITH IT. YOU WRESTLE WITH IT. YOU LIVE IT. ART ISN'T A LITTLE MORSEL YOU GOBBLE UP.

The reason this viewpoint bugs me so much is it's emblematic of the liberal mindset that having good taste or opinions means you are correct in all things and not susceptible to reactionary thinking. It absolves a lack of self criticism and approves any misconduct as unavoidable.

i Don't understand how the pushback against renaming it Campesinos isn't just overt racism. what is the reason you don't want to honor farmworkers???

OPB@opb.org

Portland City Council advanced a plan Wednesday to rename the roughly 8-mile-long street on the city’s eastside, months after reporting from The New York Times revealed that farmworker labor advocate Chavez had allegedly sexually abused women and girls.

The FDA just approved daraxonrasib, a breakthrough drug for advanced pancreatic cancer that doubles survival time. This is huge: pancreatic cancer was once thought untreatable. The researchers received a standing ovation when they presented the trial results, unheard of at scientific conferences.
