14’s social life continues to warm my heart. He went to watch his friend’s flag football game because her little brother invited him. Dad picked him up and everything. They’re purely platonic friends. I love this so much!!

14’s classmate’s Grandma passed away. 93 years young. I used to enjoy seeing her at all the games. When people leave their mark on you it’s so sad to hear when they pass no matter what the age😢

Some nights 14 comes in my room at night to lay with me while I hug him or rub his back and we talk about school and sports and friends and it's only in the dark that he'll really open up. But he's also so freaken funny. 17 is my absolute favorite person in the world, but 14 is my PRIDE AND JOY.

14 ended the first grading period with a respectable 3.1. He's playing a sport so I'm giving him a bit of grace. Next grading period needs to be a 3.4 at a minimum since that's where I think his baseline potential lies. I'm guiding to keep the average above 3.5 to be competitive for the UC system.

17 lost all driving privileges this weekend because someone rear ended him and he flipped the guy off. Guy was drunk and got mad. 17 is so lucky his daddy was nearby to save him. Drunk guy backed up immediately when he saw G.

17 has me worrying constantly. He thinks he's a tough guy because he can defend himself. No, you're a kid with zero discernment. Your dad and I grew up with rough crowds at rough schools. You have a soft life and light skin privilege. Stay in your lane!!

Yesterday I spent time with a friend who recently lost her husband. I let her talk and talk. Asked questions to keep her talking about him. It's part of the grieving process. Her family is encouraging her to move on because she's having a hard time working. I get it but the only way out is through.

Feeling so much better than I have been about his near future. I worry so much! It scares me to think he won't be able to maintain the lifestyle his father and I have him accustomed to. We're far from rich but we're comfortable.

Whoo! 14 got his GPA over a 3.0. He's not used to letter grades and wasn't mentally prepared for how challenging this school is. My goal is to keep him at a 3.7 or above. He still has some work to do so I have to keep my guidance very gentle.

Sending positive texts to the Brochachos group chat regarding their slight grade improvements. We have to celebrate the tiny wins and motivate each other to push through. If they get their grades up we'll do a team dinner. But not a pizza party IYKYK

I have been pretty transparent with them about my struggles with work this summer. Their dad is also going through some BS. It's life! They need to know, but not worry. We're tough and resilient people. They see that.

14 is skipping this weekend's football practice to attend a Latino Student Union retreat. Football usually comes first after academics but I'm very pleased he chose the retreat. My heart burst when he joined LSU.

I ran into an old coworker at 14's game. Funny how she said she just wants to ride out the tech wave til graduation which are my thoughts exactly. Just get me to 2030 please I do not care where I work after that!

I just gave a ride to the kid who's mom yelled at 17 and I wasn't allowed to say anything. 17 is lucky I have so much respect for him because the way I wanted to tell this boy off. WHOO!🤐

Last night's game was fun but we won and couldn't celebrate the way we wanted to because our friends played for the other team. It was a great win because I didn't think we could pull it off! But we had to focus on hockey and TNF at dinner after 🫣

But if I'm going to send him off into the world in 10 months, I'll need to prepare him. Being overprotective is not the way. Besides we all know a controlling parent just creates a sneaky kid. And I don't want that.

His nina is the head of juvenile hall in our city. She has really inspired me to be less of a warden and more of a think of all these consquences before you make a potentially life changing decision please. Sometimes it makes my stomach nervous.

17 is off this week. I let him go hang with friends last night and when he came home he told me that a friends mom is mad at him, blaming him for her son smoking. Is it possible 17 smoked? Sure. Is it likely? NO. I don't smoke, his dad doesn't smoke, no one in our extended family smokes. EVER. Ew.

I know my son well enough to know he does some really stupid things but smoking is probably not one of them. But if he did, I'm dealing with that directly with him. Making him take accountability for his actions. Not blaming friends for their "influence."

From what I'm told, this kid picked up smoking this summer back in India and it was his own family who put him on to it. So you shipped him to India to keep him away from his friends while your own culture influenced him. At the end of the day he is the only one to blame for his actions. Dummy.

We have been anti smoking since day 1. Vaping? Are you fucking stupid? Has been my message since he told me kids vape in the bathroom in middle school. Weed? Why would you need weed when therapy is right there?

Bribed 14 to come to SF with me by taking him to his favorite stores first. I never go to the city on the weekend. We had to park a mile away uphill. Luckily we're fit! Once we arrived at Haight we ran into a nude, male bike party.

I wasn't surprised but 14 wasn't pleased. I mean I don't know know who wants to ride around with their bits all over a bike seat. Clorox wipes anyone? But I educated him that nudity is common in SF culture and we're in their territory so we just ignore it.

Then we made our way to the Exploratorium to view the ARM Cuauhtémoc, which was an absolute vision. Worth all of the hectic crowds, traffic, and parking chaos. And much better than sitting around at home trying to find something good to watch while he plays video games!

14 didn't play yesterday because the Trainer kept him out. (Thank you Trainer!) He had FOMO post game because it was very competitive even if they lost. He regrets playing last week and I didn't even say I told you so. Go me.

Could've been healthy playing the #2 team in the league and helped your team secure the W! The good news is he's taken to Epsom salt baths and will listen when we tell him to rest and heal!

14 is hitting his adjustment period 5 weeks in. A B- in Algebra? Unacceptable! C- in Hebrew Scriptures and Physics? Get to tutoring, pal! He’s frustrated at not having a spare moment on weekdays because of academics and sports while having a full social life on the weekends.

14 has had a hurt back for a couple of weeks now. If he would just stay off of it he could heal but he insisted on trying to play the last 2 games. And then he's out mending it for the next week. I asked him to sit out this week's game so I can see him play next week. He's so stubborn!

Dinner tonight with someone who always has to pick apart the check. The rest of us just sit there like we’ll split it. Meanwhile she’s over here busting out the calculator. I hate that. I never go anywhere so when we decide to do something it’s costs what it costs and I don’t worry about it.

oh...this is bad

As a long, long, long, long, long time Converse buyer, I will never buy a Converse product ever again. I am sick of the virtue signalling to racists. I see this and I see a man hanged, a white robe that could be a klansman's robe and light shaped like a KKK hat. What the actual hell!?!

Since AT&T wants to charge me a monthly subscription to turn off my kids data at bedtime- KICK ROCKS - I have figured out how to pause the wifi on their individual devices. Oh the apps are locked down. Yes, they are.

So last night I paused the wifi on 17's Chromebook. Then I saw him start on his phone. Paused that. Removed messages from always available so the kid could get some friggin sleep! Parenting: It's a Full Time Job 24/7/365!

I am trying to interview with someone who is connected to a current colleague and the nicest guy. We have texted each other many times on my work phone. I'm trying to decide if it's completely out of line to ask him for a recommendation.

Because he used to live locally, I feel like it could be a personal contact of his. That would be an amazing recommendation and I could really use it. But if it turns out to be a professional contact he barely remembers I would feel dumb. HA!

I was late to a meeting because I was working on 2 other critical items. Do you think they care? They do not. Aside from the fact that everytime I tell someone "she" will be working these accounts next quarter they groan. But "she" gets away with it all because she's of European descent iykwim

17 has a D+ in GOV. Yesterday he says to me, I need to learn how to lock in with this teacher. The sigh of relief I let out...! It has taken him all of HS to understand that it's up to HIM to figure out how to be successful despite differences in learning style, teaching style, personalities, etc.
