Good to know that dumping toxic xitter and choosing to hang with sane folks on Bluesky is also strategically smart. All in on being Brazilian on the road to Nov 3 US 🌊 election.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

We need more good news like this!

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social

Lula’s win is the first good news for the planet in a while! I bet it shaves a tenth of a degree off how hot our earth eventually gets, which will save millions of lives Thank you Brazil!

OMG, Social Security Admin sent out this email. "Trump Accounts"??? WFT! It's just all so effing gross, tacky, narcissistic, sycophantic, and corrupt. It's so disgustingly abusive how they are forcing this convicted rapist and felon on our public treasures without our consent.

2500-3000 of us showed up for #NoKings at Ocean Beach in SF for another human banner. Sunny October day enabled the helicopter, and so we all get to marvel at the iconic shot with the Golden Gate Bridge. Most importantly: VOTE to end the nightmare!

You know it's time for a revolution when Cramer is turning into a Marxist.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

Carl Quintanilla: Real average hourly earnings down 0.7% on the month, that's the sixth straight month... Jim Cramer: Look, rich people are making a lot of money. God, I sound like Marx. I really don't want to sound like Marx. It's just, look at the data.

Trump, Brexit, AfD... all roads lead to Putin.

We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

Decades of advocating for why bicycles are such a superior mode of transportation to cars couldn’t accomplish what rising gas prices are doing. I’ll take sanity any way it manifests, but just for the record: owning and driving a car has always been so much more expensive than riding a bike. 🚲💪

Boise State Public Radio@boisestatepublicradio.org

With gas prices hitting an all time high, consumers are feeling the burn at the pump. But some commuters in Idaho are finding a cheaper, healthier way out. From saving money to skipping traffic jams, it seems the bicycle is becoming the ultimate urban escape from rising fuel costs.

I don't wanna COUCH my words here: I know JD Vance, his eyeliner, and absent Ashley Moody are used to running away from people when things get tough because they care more about themselves and their billionaire buddies than the people they represent. But this is my home. /1

Let's get human again. Big Tech wants us to be judgmental a-holes so they can make more $$. "If our viral moment contributes anything to the ongoing cultural conversation about how we judge what we see online, I hope it reminds us to be more comfortable saying, “I don’t know the whole story.”"

If you’re going to bring your iced coffee to the job interview in a reusable mug, I’m going to hire you on the spot.

I realized you can actually "report an issue" on Google maps, so I did. As both Apple and Mapquest have shown, they have a choice (and coding ability) to show some integrity and self-respect to revert the name of this lake to what it always has been and will be: Lake Ontario.

The FIFA emperor has no clothes.

Mash@itismashagain.bsky.social

My entire life I’ve never called it the FIFA World Cup. I’ve always called it the World Cup. Fans don’t give a shit about FIFA. If national teams showed up for a World Cup tournament not held by FIFA we would all watch it. World Cup is the brand. FIFA is nothing.

Just finished Alito's dissent in the mail-in voting case and... it's so stupid. Even for him. THERE'S NO LEGAL ARGUMENT. It just rests on a fundamental misunderstanding of the word "choice." It's not surprising that the man who overturned Roe doesn't understand what the word choice means, but Jesus.

This World Cup is totally tainted. It's simply not a fair competition when some teams get sabotaged by the host country and others don't. What's happened to the Iranians is the definition of having the goal posts moved on you. Amazing how well they've performed despite all of it.

Maybe not such a bad idea to have the whole world visit the US right now, just to reaffirm it's worth fighting for its soul.

I feel this so badly. I'm glad the half empty stadiums didn't end up happening. Theres still so much wrong, but the things that went right came at such a perfect time for those who started giving up. open.substack.com/pub/ladylibe...

This writer speaks for me! "Lalas’s ubiquitousness every World Cup is American TV’s answer to the Iran war: no one wants it, everyone hates it, and as it drags on, it inevitably becomes a face-saving exercise in damage limitation." PS: Grateful for Telemundo! www.theguardian.com/football/202...

The "hydration break" really is a perfect American capitalist innovation: a nakedly commercial play to insert more ad revenue into a game that doesn't have ads anywhere else in the world, all under the guise of some humanitarian interest in the players' wellbeing.

It's funny how you don't need to be a financial "expert" to have known that an attacked country has zero incentive to help its attacker, *especially* when the real fallout from said attack is starting to kick in.

I think the reason I've been a little ambiently mad all day is because January 6th rioters are statistically the most likely group of pedophiles in the world and they clubbed a guy to death and they're going to be rich from the tax money that I give to the country I live in.
