Chronic pain affects an estimated 50 million to 100 million Americans, disabling up to 20 million of them. Yet there are few effective drugs to treat chronic pain beyond opioids, which can be dangerous and addictive. What’s the way ahead? ✍️ @sutherlandphd.bsky.social: knowmag.org/4dnIuRb

As the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress and Chair Emerita of @capac.house.gov, I am disgusted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the U.S. will 'aggressively' revoke visas for Chinese students.

This exactly sums up our US science infrastructure, which has been built over a century and is the envy of the world, one of our nation’s greatest strengths. And it’s being destroyed right now.

I was excited to hear about a new behavioral treatment for chronic pain developed by researchers in Australia -- dialectical behavior therapy adapted to chronic pain. Thanks to @sutherlandphd.bsky.social for covering this development.

Immune amnesia- it’s a thing.

Matt Shipman (he/him)@shiplives.bsky.social

One reason measles is such a big deal is "immune amnesia." Basically, if you get measles, you'll likely lose immunity you've built up over time (from vaccinations or getting sick). This piece is from a few years ago, but offers an overview of the phenomenon. www.bbc.com/future/artic...
