The last time I cried about a podcast ending was the end of TAZ's Balance arc. This time it's @knowledgefight.bsky.social , which couldn't be more different... yet here I am. I've had Dan and Jordan in my ears for almost ten years. I'm going to miss them.

Today in "the German language compounds like no other", may I quote Niklas Maak, whose mention of Trump's "Selbstvergoldungspsychose" (lit. 'self-gilding psychosis') in today's FAZ delights me to no end.

Heaven is the solitary space you find at a party with a hundred strangers and your best friend - whose party it is - to sit and pretend you're busy on your phone, while your friend flits about and mingles and looks so happy that you're happy to stay a bit longer, for her, even if it kills you inside

Today in "there must be a German word for this", I present, without comment: Niederschlagswasserbewirtschaftungsrecht (rainwater management law) I bid you good day.

After the A-Team edit, this is probably the best parody video I've made, and that's without patch 8. You ain't seen nothing yet. #baldursgate3

Gonna leave this here as well, just in case. Calling all Baldur's Gate 3 enthusiasts! Have you come across these cave paintings? Where? #bg3 #baldursgate3 #underdark

The brainrot was particularly strong this week. My obsession with Baldur's Gate 3 is going nowhere, it seems. #bg3 #bg3edits

"Fixed some cameras that couldn't contain the force that is Astarion". Larian out here with a masterclass in patch note writing. I constantly just want to hug that entire team. Baldur's Gate is a wonder.

I call this one "The Hottest Couple in Faerun". I'd like to thank Larian for putting the Black and Summer Green Dye in the game. LOOK AT THEM. These people do three-point-landings just getting of out bed. I love this game so much.

Absolutely not me playing Baldur's Gate for 12 hours straight and wearing out my F5 key, until the pretty vampire finally fell in love with my character. Not. Me. Look away.

Have some conversational German: "Ich war durch" - lit. "I was through" - means "I got soaked". "Ich war mit durch" - lit. "I was through with [no object]" - means "I was knackered". Incidentally, both are true for your currently drenched, friendly neighbourhood German.

Motion to add "baldursed" into the dictionary: the condition of having 5 free hours to play Baldur's Gate 3 today, and deeming that Absolutely Not Enough.

After almost 3.5 years of working from home with zero issues, I've finally encountered one of those "problems" the media is always on about. It's that Baldur's Gate 3 Is Right There, Your Inbox Can Wait Maybe. Adulting is particularly hard this week, thanks, Larian.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3: I have zero regrets so far. They made a D&D game with Bioware characters like they fucking KNEW MY VERY HEART. I don't even deserve this game. Gosh but I'm happy.

Today was such a beautiful day for ship spotting, but I somehow screwed up my camera settings, so no pictures, except this one. I wish I wasn't mortally afraid of heights. I wanna be up in the rigging so bad.

Quick, I need an adult: Do I splash out on Baldur's Gate 3 or do I wait a couple of patches? Maybe it doesn't even have the usual teething problems? Any advice?

I was out in the sticks today but I didn't take any pictures so please just take my word for it: we should all spend more time in the sticks. So much grass to touch. So many birds to deny. So. Much. Sky.

There's much joy to be had from a story of a lioness loose in our capital, and I'm glad to get to witness it here. Because let me tell you, the lioness/ boar discourse on German twitter right now is So. Bad. AND IT SHOULD BE FUN, ELON, YOU BASTARD.

Oof, Oppenheimer is good, but a tough watch. It's oppressive and loud and beautiful and infuriating and sad and stressful and stunning. It's most definitely a Christopher Nolan movie, and I recommend seeing it. Bring ear plugs and rations. And give Downey's makeup artist and Oscar.

Gonna see Oppenheimer today at the excellent time of 3 p.m. which means that a) I get to see it in an empty cinema (the best cinema) and b) I'll be home early enough to recover from two hours of Cillian before I have to sleep.

Sometimes my brain glitches so hard that I forget how to spell the simplest, most common words. Like, I just typed the name "Andrew" into this app and had to stare at it for 5 minutes until I was reasonable certain that that's how the name is spelled. ... I'm *still* not entirely convinced.

I learned today that the English word for Trampelpfad (lit. 'trampled path') is desire path. So rather than angrily stomping out a new shortcut, like we Germans seem to do, I now picture Americans skipping along, waving at butterflies as they make new trails. DESIRE PATH. I so love languages.

One of the many advantages of living alone is that I can pause the tv whenever I want, in order to fully appreciate Henry Cavill's craft and commitment to the role. For the record, I absolutely DO NOT sigh every time he leans against a thing. Or when he looks like that. OR WHEN HE HARRUMPHS. I d

Reskeet (oof) with a picture and your age. I turn 48 this month. I like that I look my age. I dislike that my body *constantly* lets me know my age.

Reskeet with a picture and your age. I’m 51, basically have not significantly evolved since this photo was taken.

Me, an old, waking up well rested at 5.30 a.m. on a Sunday: Ah, still punk af. I will take my coffee outside and enjoy the quiet.

Travelling with mum, day 5. I'm knackered but this was the view from my hotel room this morning, so I'm not about to complain. Dinan is beautiful.

Travelling with mum, day 4. A day of contrasts: first, Arromanches, Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach, then Mont St Michel. I saw and learned a lot today but my favourite were these odd flowers. 🤔
