Pay attention to the ableism being thrown around with respect to Christina Applegate finding out she doesn’t have MS. People acting like it’s a relief or a blessing. Like she’s “better off now”. She’s still sick. She’s just sick without answers. I guarantee it’s not a “relief” for her.

Andrea Is Sick of Long Covid@andreastudiescovid.bsky.social

It can still disable you. Forever. People had a hard time when restaurants closed for a few weeks. It was seemingly the worst thing that had ever happened to them. Imagine being so sick that you have to stay home for five years. And you're still sick, and there's no treatment, there's no cure. 😷

I’m genuinely shocked at the people on here who think long covid isn’t real. Seriously? Your actuaries, departments of health even the freaking department of defense know it’s real. Apparently people used to think MS wasn’t real. There’s a long history of telling sick people they’re crazy.

I don’t think I read to escape my life nearly as much as people assume readers do. Often I read because there’s something in my own life I can feel but can’t quite name. Then a stranger in a book says it first.

Why do advocates continue to share their Long Covid stories? ⬇️ Because no one else is. AND If we can spare one person from suffering our fate, being ripped out of your life & becoming disabled, it is worth it.

Yet another wave of COVID and prevention still isn’t being taken seriously. Until prevention is properly prioritised, we have to take responsibility for our own risk reduction. That means continuing with the practical precautions we know work, even if those around us have stopped taking them.

Missing your kids’ games is awful. Losing your career is awful. Being disabled is awful. I guess awful is relative to what you know. Long Covid puts suffering in perspective.

Dr Noor Bari@njbbari3.bsky.social

I had a really deep conversation with someone about masks today. They said “I don’t know how you do it. I had to wear an N95 for an hour, and it was awful.”

Get your immunizations. Let me be the cautionary tale: I was not vaccinated. One infection = 5+ years disabled. So many aspects of my life lost. (Infected Jan 2021 just weeks before the vaccine was available to general public)

Just in time for the 2026-2027 vaccines, a new review shows that COVID19 vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe illness and hospitalization across all age groups, including kids. Pregnant women were also protected, as were their babies. Don’t forget to schedule your vaccination!

Are there some deaths that provoke an outpouring of grief? Yes, there are some deaths that provoke an outpouring of grief. For in this death filled era we are all of us so filled with grief that we must take any opportunity to pour some of it out.

One again, grief and Long Covid go hand in hand. “It’s not a problem that can be solved, it’s a condition in which you have to find a way to endure.” And you never know how you’ll feel day to day, sometimes hour to hour. An excerpt from All There Is with Anderson Cooper.
