My new obsession is with making butter bells, which keep your butter safe and spreadable on the counter. These will make their debut this Saturday (Sept. 19) at the St. Ann Artisan Market on Yuma Street NW. I hope other people like them too! #pottery #functionalpottery #ceramics #art

One of the many wonderful things about living in DC is the proximity to the natural world. This #barredowl was hanging out at the end of my street, as curious about me as I was about him. I kept my distance, of course, but never so happy my phone has a zoom lens! #dcwildlife #dcnature #owls

You can’t imagine how excited and honored I am to be part of a pottery market at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, particularly to support an exhibit by extraordinarily talented Pueblo Potters who have inspired and awed me for decades. #pottery #womenartists #pueblopotters #nmwa

One of my favorite glaze combos — 3x Mayco Amber Quartz all over then 2x Mayco Cenote on the inside and outer rim (it’s runny so only an inch down outside). I call is my Star Trek design because it looks like entering warp speed. #pottery #art #ceramics #funglazing

I had this bowl for a hot minute — took it out of the kiln one day and sold it the next. Barely got to photograph it before wrapping it up. Glazes are Amaco’s River Birch River Birch and Seaweed. #pottery #ceramics #art

Oops, that's just for one day! Here are all the workshops at the Folklife Marketplace: www.eventbrite.com/cc/folklife-... Our beloved Smithsonian deserves support for all the work it's done to celebrate America's 250 and frankly everything it does every single day.

We really #needaneditbutton. Forgot to add hashtags: #pottery #ceramics #airdryclay #smithsonian #smithsonianfolklife #folklifefestival #supportlocalartists I’m having a day….

Another black clay platter. This one has Spectrum’s Floating Curry. I used some white slip in the center so the glaze would pop more. #pottery #ceramics #art #blackclay

New pasta bowl on brown clay. Glaze is mostly Coyote’s Opal. I added a bit of Amaco’s Honey Flux on the outside to make the glaze edge more fluid since I can’t paint straight glaze lines. #pottery #ceramics #art.

Shallow bowl (about 12 inches across). Glazes are Amaco Deep Sienna Speckle, dots of Spectrums Running Hot Chowder, and then a 2x coating of Blue Rutile. #pottery #ceramics #art

What to do with leftover colored clay? Agateware! These are made from the slip and trimmings from the black clay platters I made and some Standard 182 stoneware. I like to keep the outside unglazed because it just feels so nice in the hands. #pottery #ceramics #art #blackclay

Finding a glaze that works with black clay is hard. coyote’s new Burnt Ember looks better in person. I added a bit of Amaco Snow around the rim for an accent but it wasn’t really needed. #pottery #ceramics #art #blackclay

The video from today’s shooting in Minnesota is horrific, enraging and emblematic of the lawlessness of ICE and this administration. We must all watch it, though — they want is to turn our heads and ignore it. #abolishice #trumpisacriminal

There is video circulating on social media of a group of ICE agents beating a man near 26th and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, then one of the ICE agents shoots the man while he's on the ground numerous times. A witness can be heard yelling that the victim is dead.

The Make It Mt. Pleasant Holiday Market is this Sunday (Dec. 14). It's scary in DC these days, but the good news is that people are pyst and want to buy holiday gifts from local artists, not billionaires. We'll have more than 70 makers, so lots to choose from! #pottery #art

Big ole pasta bowl will be on sale this Sunday at the Make It Mt Pleasant Holiday Market. DC forecast says any snow will be long gone before it starts so support local! We’ll have more than 80 vendors, all local makers. #pottery #art

While glazing is one of my favorite parts of pottery, the challenge of coloring clay and then turn into something unique is special too. These Agateware pieces (and more) will be on sale Sunday Dec 14 at the Mt Pleasant Holiday Market, my last of the year. #pottery #art #agateware #ceramics

Espresso cups! As a tea drinker, I don’t understand the appeal of a cup that small. Give me a 14oz mug with some good Irish Breakfast. Still, fun to figure out what glazes make a nice set. These will be at Heurich House tomorrow (Dec 4) and Mt Pleasant Holiday Market Dec 14. #pottery #art

One of my students inspired me to make matcha bowls so I made a bunch and went crazy on the glazing. I’ll be selling them Thursday, Dec 4 at the Heurich House Christmas Markt in Dupont and Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Make It Mt Pleasant Holiday Market. Support DC artists! #pottery #ceramics #art

New bowl combo. I’m ahead of the game on holiday market products so have a bit of time to experiment with glazing. I want to do more “landscape” results. I like this one. #pottery #ceramics #art

I’m not sure which makes me happier today — the bumper crop of sweet potatoes from my backyard “ DC farm” or the amazing blowout by the Dems, esp. in my home state of New Jersey! #vegetablegardens #gardening #urbanfarm #vegetables #urbanfarming

Huzzah! Finally got the right clay body for these melted class coasters. I was having a high loss ratio with most of the stonewares I tried but Laguna’s Soldate 60, designed for raku firings, worked perfectly. #pottery #ceramics #art #potterytips

I’m super excited that my work will be available starting Nov 21 at the DC Maker’s Guild’s booth at the Downtown Holiday Market! One line I’ll be selling are agateware soap dispensers. Each is unique but I’m proud of all of them. #pottery #ceramics #art #dcartists

I’mcalling this the green nipple. Glaze are both Spectrum — textured kiwi with dots of muddy waters. Fired to cone 10. I counted on it being runny but apparently I had a slight high spot in the middle of the bowl. Still, cone 6 glazes at cone 10 are lovely. #pottery #ceramics #potteryglazing

I tried to call WJLA, the local Sinclair-owned affiliate in DC, to express my disgust at their decision to pre-empt @jimmykimmel.com. Shockingly, no one answered the phone. I did get through to the news tip line, which said all emails to newsdesk@wjla.com will be forwarded to the general manager.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say. This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand. All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

I’ll be at Art All Night Mt Pleasant Friday (Sept 12) and at the Capitol Hill Art Walk on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll have smaller, easy-to-carry items for AAN and bigger bowls for CHAW. Some overlaps, but special items for each. More reason to visit both! #pottery #artallnight #capitolhillartwalk

These are tough and scary times, particularly in Washington DC. But we are a resilient, vibrant city that is full of joy, art, music and a sense of community. These events, and so many more, are happening despite the occupation and siege because #artisresistence. #freedc

Nesting pasta bowls. The glazes are Opulence Antique Iron, with Spectrum’s Running Hot Chowder (since coat) on top and then dots of Spectrum Muddy Waters to create the lines. #pottery #art #potteryglazing

I forgot to mention!!! These bowls will be on sale this weekend at the Capitol Hill Art Walk. I will be part of a group of veterans outside the Hill Center. Hope to see you there! #supportyourlocalpotter
