One feels a little sorry for BBC journalists reporting "live from the scene" for an insatiable rolling live news feed, when there is in fact nothing to report.

"It turns out that he isn’t as orange as he looks." SDLP leader Claire Hanna reacts to Trump's comments on Irish unity. "I'm not sure if anybody has checked on the DUP. I suspect they're burning those Trump flags as we speak."

"It is the scientific use of the imagination, but we always have some material basis on which to start our speculations". Sherlock Holmes, in the Hound of the Baskervilles. Applies also to archaeology.

Racist politicians whip up racist outrage. Widespread disorder ensues. The courts treat widespread disorder with the severity that they have always treated widespread disorder. Racist politicians cry “two-tier justice”, whipping up racist outrage. Rinse. Repeat. It’s so fucking tedious.

I've wanted to try using gouache (opaque watercolour) for a while. First attenpt here - you get a much better range of heavy/dark and light tones. But it's too hot, the paint kept going runny!
