When AI informs decisions about who lives and dies, what happens to human control? Meaningful human control requires genuine judgement, scrutiny and accountability — not a human rubber-stamping an algorithm. This November, states must launch negotiations on #AutonomousWeapons. lnkd.in/edfTNu4k

One year after Stop Killer Robots and Etica Funds launched our Investor Statement on autonomous weapons, we brought leading investors into the room at Geneva during the #CCW to discuss what unregulated autonomy in weapons means for the financial sector.

We discussed investor red lines, dual-use technologies, due diligence — and why a strong international treaty is the missing piece. A clear, enforceable global rulebook would give investors the standards they need to manage risk and avoid complicity in unlawful harm.

States must turn years of discussion into binding rules that safeguard humanity, uphold meaningful human control and ensure compliance with international laws. Time is running out, States must act now. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /9

Machines must never decide who lives or dies. Yet the anti-personnel prohibitions were absent from the debate. Stronger legal safeguards against digital dehumanisation and automated harm are essential. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /6

The GGE has concluded its work. Now states must continue their commitment towards achieving a legally binding instrument on autonomous weapons systems. Stop Killer Robots urges states to launch negotiations in November at the 7th CCW review conference. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /7

The current text only applies in armed conflict, the provisions are vague and they do not include key concepts such as ‘predictability’, ‘reliability’, ‘explainability’ and ‘traceability’. They still allow autonomous weapons to identify and kill human beings. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /5

With elements of an instrument agreed, This could be a significant step for international law and the protection of civilians in conflict - if states can turn these elements into a legal treaty and strengthen certain elements during negotiations. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /2

Regrettably, after three years of painstaking work, important elements of the draft instrument were deleted in the final hours, as highly militarised states pushed their interests over humanitarian protections. #CCWUN #AutonomousWeapons /3

Today's decisions will shape the future young people inherit. Our #Youth Delegates were in Geneva this week for UN discussuons on #AutonomousWeapons. Here's what they had to say about their experience — and why young voices belong in these conversations. #StopKillerRobots #AutonomousWeapons #CCWUN

Thank you to everyone who joined our Geneva side event on #AutonomousWeapons! 🤝🇺🇳 On Monday, we explored the humanitarian, human rights and children’s rights — concerns that must feature more in international discussions. These must be at the centre of a treaty to #StopKillerRobots

⚠️ Digital dehumanisation is not an abstract concern - it's happening right now in conflicts around the world. Handing targeting decisions to machines strips people of their humanity. Victims are reduced to data points, while survivors have no one to hold accountable.

This week at the informal exchanges on AI in the military at the UN 🇺🇳, our campaigners are calling on states to act urgently to stop and prevent digital dehumanisation and automated harm and ensure meaningful human control over the use of force. 🗣️ Stay tuned for updates from campaigners in Geneva
