Detour had two buses trying to go opposite directions on a narrow side street that had cars parked on both sides. There really was no alternative route.

You know who really doesn't produce science or literature or contribute to society? Oligarchs. Venture capitalists. Billionaires.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

My recommendation for seeing You Can See Everything is to go in knowing nothing. Don't know what a movie is. Don't know where you are or who you are.

I once calculated that Lori and I would lose $100K per year if we married and that was around 2008. And the government wonders why people aren't marrying and having a lot of kids.

For some reason, I just thought of Covert Bailey, who wrote "Fit or Fat," a diet/nutrition/health book in the late 1970s. He's still with us at 95. Maybe he was on to something.

'The Abominable Dr. Phibes' is a hilarious, thrilling, fascinating, beautiful piece of art. What it certainly is not is a documentary, and it’s dangerous to pretend that it is.

I have different views on some of the discourse on here and I'm debating saying anything for fear of getting dogpiled. But when someone on the autism spectrum wants to tell you things aren't so black and white, you just might be oversimplifying.

A second neighbor of mine (3 blocks away) put up a Tafoya sign. It got me wondering, if you're a Republican, why is *that* the race you're getting a sign for, and not some other one? Importance? Winnability? Candidate personality?

If I ever become President, the White House will look like Ludwig II of Bavaria hired Antonio Gaudi to design a burlesque house.

If I ever become President, the White House will look like Pope Pius IX opened a Mennonite bakery.

Oh dear, Spencer Tracy didn't learn from trying to play Portuguese in Captains Courageous. He's trying Latino in this movie... I think; it's hard to tell.

Questionable win 6

Steve Quick@stevequick.bsky.social

If you're new to the Minnesota Vikings, they'll squeak out questionable wins until a 9-2 record, make you think they're for real, then finish 10-7, make the playoffs on a tiebreaker, then lose in a way that has never happened before.

The weird thing about that interception was that Smith ran to a spot, stood there, and the ball came straight to him. I don't think he even took a step.

I had an idea for a punny film festival for next year. It was better than Noirvember... Supernovember, Yakov Smirnovember, Dante's Infernovember It was actually clever, but I can't remember it.

OG Kristal Gouda (aka Old Groendal & Brokkeloude Roeselare) Semi-hard to hard Dutch 🐄 🧀 with wax coat. 18 month gouda. Assertive aroma. Dense texture with many small crystals. Maybe the most intense gouda I've had, though still sweet and creamy. Extra long finish. An excellent aged gouda.

Roth 3 Chile Pepper Gouda Cheese Semi-hard Wisconsin 🐄 🧀 with added chipotle, habanero and jalapeño peppers. Somewhat rubbery texture. The peppers were only noted on the lips after eating. A cheese for burgers.

Piper's Pyramide from Capriole Goat Cheese Semi-soft Indiana 🐐🧀 with added smoked paprika. Dense and fudgy texture from age. Clean aroma. A hint of smoke and spice from the paprika. The finish has the typical goat cheese tanginess.

Blakesville Creamery Llanes Semi-soft Wisconsin 🐑🧀 with thick bloom rind. Once past the rind and cream line, the paste has a dense cheesecake texture. The flavor is common sheep cheese but with a bright lemony finish that's quite nice.
